Lake level today is at 2543ft and rising about 1ft per week.
At the moment, the flume is exposed by about 5ft, trees stick out in North and Southforks, and a "reef" cuts the reach in half when sailing from the Ghetto.
The snow pack in our Kern River watershed stands at only about 42% of normal for April 1.
As enumerated by Watermaster Chuck Williams, by the weekend of April 20, the Fishing Derby, the lake will only hold approx 102,000acft, with an elevation of about 2547ft (only 4ft above where we are now, so the flume will not be under).
Based upon our current measured snow pack, and the water subsequently allocated to the various parties with rights to it, Mr Williams estimates the lake to top out at 148,000acft in early June (elevation of 2556.5ft, i.e. 13ft above where we are now), then start going down, to arrive at approx 75,000acft by Sept 1, i.e. 2ft below where we are now - which is pretty dysfunctional from the windsurfing perspective.
None of this, by the way, has anything at all to do with the planned "repairs" to our dams. It is solely the consequence of scant precipitation. |

How about a photo, taken from the highway by the entrance to the Aux Dam, or the entrance to the Ghetto? _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

lake elevation is within 1/2" of where is was when you sailed here last in late October.
For additional local information (water, dam repairs, local politics or lack thereof, weather), as well as lots of pics, check http://www.facebook.com/groups/294638607227135/ which I update a couple of times a week |

water is low; but had no trouble going "cove-to-cove" on Sunday
good thing that buoy is there marking the reef [that is now fully submerged by about 10"]
can only wonder about the quality [algae, fish ich, etc]
ought to be real interesting at 72,000 af as i don't ever recall seeing it like that!
and furthermore [down below the parking lot, ie Ghetto]; pager average wind speed appears for the most part to be about the peak; guess the "high average" is up there 200+ feet off the deck |
