OK! Starting today, pay attention to the top banner on all iWindsurf applications, from normal web to iPhone and Android. Nothing flashy, but a clean design that will carry us forward for years.
Massive thanks to Gary Pikovsky for the design work. www.pikovsky.org
Directly, please visit www.boardliving.com/events/eventDetail/114 where you can register for the different categories and days as many have sought. Slicing the baloney thinly for you!
Also, we negotiated a huge promo discount on a lodging package. $199 per night single/double occupancy and, here's the super-deal while it lasts:
For any competitor who books two consecutive nights during the event (could be Friday and Sat/Sat and Sun given the holiday) we will WAIVE your event registration fee! This is up to a $180 savings beyond the huge discounted room rate. (Limited to ONE competitor fee waiver per booking no matter how many competitors or size of room/suite.)
And you will be well looked after with gourmet catering directly from the resort's chef. No BB&J sandwiches or lukewarm pasta. High-end boxed lunches each day, and a truly awesome New England BBQ with tons of protein choices and veggies and grains.
Let's up the game for our beloved sport and pay it forward. That's my goal this year.
And, BTW, I know SUP is all that and a nickel right now and we expect many more paddlers than sailors but let's take that challenge and appear in droves. You guys make the fun, not the race organizers. It's about you, so join your peers who've already registered and show our SUP comrades what's what. _________________ Support Your Sport. Great to hear things are coming together... Dan, is there a tentative schedule of events/description of racing yet? Would like to spread the word. Thanks! |

Saw the banner ad on the top of iWindsurf. And also the logo on facebook.
Great job on the logo, it's clean, good graphics, subdued, but it's clear what you're looking at. However there is a lot of "white space"... you could put a windsurfing pic of somebody in there... or an outline map of Buzzards Bay... or not
Great job !!

$360 registration fee for 2 people? That's great for the hotel, but you won't see us there. I'm interested in the windsurfing aspect, not in "gourmet" food.
The registration fee for the East Coast Windsurfing is $20. I think King of the Cape was not too different. Neither was "associated" with a hotel. Perhaps the informal approach similar to the wave bashes is a better model for races, too. |

I'm not sure what to say other than many multi-day events charge similar amounts. There is a different balance of what is provided to each person at each event, and ours is no different.
I hope people understand the cost reality of hosting such an event, and that most loose money. We likely will take a bath as well regardless of who cares to attend.
It reminds me of the old joke:
"You loose 15 cents for each widget you sell. How do you plan to make money?"
"Volume."
Out of pocket costs will exceed the full registration fee. We are doing this in good faith and as a gesture to the sailors who've stayed with it to this side of the curve. Good food and good windsurfing need not be mutually exclusive. Each are part of a good time. We can't control the weather or the mix of competitor skills, both of which play a large part in the "happiness" of the event. We can create a wonderful on-shore experience for sailors, paddlers and non-competitors alike regardless of nearly any weather situation. In the end, we are positioned to offer a 100% experience if the weather cooperates and at least some large fraction of good even if it rains sideways. _________________ Support Your Sport. well maybe keeping it simple might be the way to go. Most of the MOWIND races are $55 per head and some of them are part of US nationals.
I'm sure you are trying your best to make this a great event but a lot of us do't have a lot to spend to begin with. You probably LOST a lot of sailors with the steep entry fee. Maybe selling vouchers for food and so on may have been the better choice . |
