The Prius is a nice alternative. Rear seats fold down , front passenger seat also goes flat so I can fit 2 boards, 5 sails, 2 booms, 3 masts ,etc all inside no roof racks and still get 48mpg. Rockin! Great commuter too slap some low profile wheels on there your ready for Hwy 17 rallying after work.

I have to be heavy footed to get less than 50 mpg on my Prius.

The only car that will not get that smell and is easy to take your gear in and out of is a truck. But get a full size bed so you can lay your boards in it. You can also get diesel.

Oh, and a truck doesn't make you look like a soccer mom.

What is this smell thing everybody keeps talking about? Is it due to salt water, dirty wetsuits, or high humidity where things never dry out?

My Dodge Grand Caravan, 2005, now with almost 200,000 miles on it can fit a 10'10" SUP/Sailboard inside. It could also go on top, but how about that? Inside! It has the 'stow and go' feature, so take the gear out and seven passengers can get in. Comfortably. Plus I do not need to find places to store the seats in the garage or wherever. They are under the floor of the van.

My 2005 does not have a console of any sort between the seats. It allows the nose of the board to go to the dash. I do not know if the later models come with that console removeable.

the pre stow and go Chrysler vans has the center storage console, it could be removed or relocated the between the 2nd row seating, considering it is equipped. My '06 does not have the factory unit, I think it interferes with the up down stowing of the seats in the 2nd row. Since mine are down and will stay down I made my own, works just like the factory unit

Nobody has ever confused me with a Soccer mom.
For sheer convenience, I like a 4ltr Ford Aerostar AWD with the rear
seats removed. Both of mine are past 150,000, and still hauling
me and my gear around. The one up in HR does kinda reak, but
I've come to love that smell. ;*)
