The Cove in Kihei is a good place to learn to SUP and protected. I just had some friends here from Florida and they were doing very well SUPing and surfing The Cove. There is a decent rental outfit right by the beach. Once you get more time on the water, you can venture out to lowers as in lower Kanaha if it is a north swell or Thousand Peaks on the SS.

The time on water he means is not likely to happen on this vacation.
He means after a couple seasons as a new SUPer you would be welcome in lowers or Peaks.
Brand new SUP guys are not so welcome at those breaks, to say th least.
