The dude was wrong to generalize about Gorge guys, although it was difficult for me to hear exactly how he expressed it (because mostly, we do indeed know about safety), and it showed some classic mainlander/other hate. HOWEVER...

Your sail was indeed uncontrolled. He was right about that. Deal with it. Initially, you had the right idea with the backpack on the window, to keep the luff edge low. And then you removed it. The harness on the clew added to the risk (weight on this end will raise the luff, encouraging the classic sail flip in a gust of wind). All of that was obvious to the dude and to me. When the worst case scenario is death, I think it's a good idea to encourage safety, at the risk of being rude.

Safety first! The dude was being vigilant and considering other beach goers, such as the lovely early on in the video. Video-stardom is far in 2nd place to protecting the lovlies! Very Happy I appreciate his lack of apathy; apathy, too common these days.

It's OK to be wrong. We all are wrong from time to time (happens to me daily), and accepting it shows humility and compassion.

Can't see the video. I can't say how many insane Gorge Guys there are but I'm positive they're thousands of people giving Gorge Sailors a bad name. Rolling Eyes The ones that are here in the summer.

More like crazy Maui racer dudes from lowers to that third or forth house with a cam on it. makes weird wave a mellow place to sail no racer (or normal level headed sailor)would be caught dead there.

The last folks I cautioned about a sail lying loose in high winds were even less appreciative of the risks. This (apparently) loose sail was 30 feet upwind of a brick building in winds gusting to 40 ... with their 2-yo kid playing on it. There really are times when assertive, then aggressive if required, intervention is justified and maybe even necessary.

My hunch is Bret removed it. It was pretty easy for me to see that the sail was indeed uncontrolled and therefore a lethal hazard.

FYI, all these posts can be removed by the poster.
