Compare Hypertech/Evo/Big JP to almost any mid-00s wave board in heavy chop and say that with a straight face. '-) |

But would you ride a "big" JP, Hypertech or Starboard in big, chattery chop?
Or would you choose a 72 liter JPWave, a 8'4" Clam (well, they ARE Hypertechs), or a sinky Starboard wave? |

I see many of the former -- plus freestyle boards -- every day in nasty chop ... and many of their owners curse the board and/or chop. Ya pay a couple of grand for a board and by Golly yer gonna use it, appropriate or not.
The latter are fine when the wind's consistent, but when it's not, they suck.
And the chop is worst when the wind's inconsistent and ya need bigger boards. (BTW, I sold my sinky Starboard Evo -- a wide wave board trend-starter -- after it pearled WFO and because it beat the crap out of me when fully powered in chop.)
Yeah, but Clams ride a lot better than the original Hypertech speed sticks. |
