techno900, are you looking forward to tons of oil drilling platforms right off the coast of North Carolina? I'm thinking that you must be pining for the vast wasteland of oil drilling and refining in Texas.

Techno--which gleaner sent you the excerpt? You just couldn't hide your scorn.

There is no doubt that carbon fuels contributed immensely to the growth of the world economy and the reduction of poverty. That is a very good thing. There is also no doubt that the carbon fuels businesses have steadily lied about the health impacts of their products since the 1960's when smog became intolerable. This is much the same trajectory that tobacco traveled--indeed, some of the folks quoted here by Isobars lied for both industries. Let's see how this plays out--the initial lawsuits against big tobacco didn't go so well either.

Scorn??? An understandably nutty assessment by Mac. My post was copied from the article that nw30 posted. Anyone that read it would know that. The judge's ruling makes sense.

The world will always need petroleum & gas, just how much is the question, plus how much should we depend on foreign oil? Being self sustaining seems like a logical goal, but if all new drilling runs into liberal road blocks, we may never be self sustaining. Solar, wind, batteries, etc. will reduce our dependence, but not by much, in my opinion.

Brent +$13/BBL, since tRump killed the Iran deal...Iran, and Saudi reducing output...tRump threatening allies who import Iranian oil....Americans will now pay more at the pump , and multiples more than Obama "paid" Iran... Another tax on the consumer....

techno900,

Looks like we are headed for a problem then, since these resources are non renewable. Just because we can do something should we? What about our children and future generations? The last 150 years is but a blink of an eye and it is estimated that the world has consumed close to 100 billion tons of oil since J.D. Rockefeller founded Standard Oil in 1870. That's about one trillion barrels.

It is quite clear that we are on an unsustainable path It's high time we started to conserve these resources as the rest of the civilized world is doing.

I shudder to think of the consequences.

Dumb story wynsurfer, it only estimates what we have used so far and makes no mention as to how much is left underground, why? Because we have little to no idea.
All these fears about oil supply seems to be based on the assumption that the Earth stopped making oil long ago and we are going to run out. Really lame assumption aimed only at the gullible.
But, but, but there were only so many dinosaurs that the Earth can turn into oil!!! Rolling Eyes

How much do you like the tons of windmills everywhere you look throughout the Gorge? It sure looked a lot nicer before.

there are some that think homes destroy the landscape... that the land looked much better before homes were built in cities.

The main problem is that we don't even belong here, God really fucked up when he allowed the human race to inhabit this planet. It's so obvious, just look around, what do you see, civilization, the big 'C', it's a cancer that has metastasized to down below the surface, and up into the skies. And now the cancer is trying to spread to other planets!
We need to be wiped out to save the planet, and the rest of the universe, it's that simple. Twisted Evil
