all the designs have bigger and smaller fins with debate about front vs, back. what happens if all 4 fins are the same size?

Then you get a true quad fin, not a twinser or any derivative of a 4 fin.
Bigger back fins stiffen up the board, make it more directional.
Bigger front fins with small trailer loosens the board, makes it more skaty.
Four equal fins are in between, with a big sweetspot, but nothing pinpoint.

A quad board is a four finned board, but unlike the twinzer, the four fins are typically close to the same size (although the rear fins may be slightly smaller), and the placement of the fins is not as on the twinzer, the placement as well as the size is part of the definition,

the rear fins also should be near the rail more so than any of the "quad" boards in production.

I think the question posted really IS what characteristics do 4 fins have the same size different to large and small, and their will be a difference which end the large are on.

large fins forward moves the pivot forward for turning
in the rear for drive or speed, smoother turns

having 4 the same size : they won't have so much a clearly defined pivot point, which is what the larger set do on large/small .

It will behave like a quad does, but IMO not track , like straight line track so well, and feel more like a twin, so if your preference is a loose skaty feel whilst retaining the quad positive, 4 the same may be a great option.

some boards especially with 4 slot boxes or can be set up with 4 fins /same size easily, and chaged round. the mini USboxes may not
