My heart goes out to all the people with a child or loved one killed in the horrific act of cowardice in Oslo yesterday. May the perpetrator burn in hell forever. |

The guy thinks he is a martyr calling for other Christians to rise up in a Christian War against Muslims.
He is no more a Christian than Osama was a Muslim.
Neither tolerates hate and murder, though both sides proclaim the other is a religion of hate. |

Norway has a limit of 21 years for any crime. 21 years will be more than enough time for his fellow inmates to inflict some serious damage upon him, however. |

The greatest threat of large-scale attacks come from individuals and small groups of extremists who subscribe to radical Islamic or far right-wing ideologies, said Gary LaFree, director of the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, or START.
While extremist animal rights and environmental groups also pose threats, those groups either have not tended to seek to kill or have only targeted individuals, according to researchers.
But extremist right-wingers -- from Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh to a neo-Nazi accused of trying to bomb a Martin Luther King Day parade this year -- have shown a willingness to target the public, LaFree said.
Such groups are among the fastest-growing extremist organizations in the country, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported in February. Right wing anti-government groups grew by 60% in 2010 over the previous year, the center reported, attributing much of the growth to militia groups. |

Quite so Keycocker. Can we ever trust people who are so convinced of their own rightness, and who shout off about it so much? If fuelled by religious fervour or other extreme ideology, they are always going to be tempted to take matters into their own hands. (Wasn't that the case with Mc Veigh.)
Inner certainty may work wonders in sport, but it's not always admirable in life. I'd be very wary of voting for any politician who feels he's on a mission, guided by God! |

He's a madman...........no more, no less. This had nothing to do with God and everything to do with xenophobia. |

Well, no. The Freedom riders in the south were taught non-violence. Much of right wing attitudes, including on this forum, are laced with violent messages. They didn't get the memo from Jesus. |

No, I don't believe he's mad, it's all too easy to write off such actions that way. His defence will no doubt plead so, but I hope the court won't wear it.
Was Hitler, or Stalin, or Bin Laden mad? Were all the religious zealots of the Spanish Inquisition who tortured people to death mad? In our enlightened times it may seem so, but I don't buy it!
Obsession , religious or extreme right wing, can tip over into action easily. Nothing that we hear of this chaps past indicates madness, and he didn't just 'snap'. There was too much planning and method involved for that to be believed. |

"Obsession , religious or extreme right wing, can tip over into...."
This guy is an extremist right wing and got much of his Manifesto from Muslim hating US websites, but lets not forget leftist extremists as well. They are all dangerous people.
It is easy to think only of Christian and right wing crazies these days because Talk Radio and other components of what David Brooks calls the "conservative entertainment media" are such loud cheerleaders for these guys.
The nutball Left hasn't gone away.
They just don't have a big propaganda machine. |
