The lies continue from the Right:

Matt Gaetz’s antifa-detecting facial recognition story is complete nonsense
The company says the photo showed neo-Nazis and a QAnon figure

The party of sedition and thuggery.

Quote:
Republican state lawmakers from across the country traveled to D.C. on Wednesday. At least one joined the siege of the U.S. Capitol Building.
STATE GOVERNMENT
LAW ENFORCEMENT
A West Virginia lawmaker live-streamed himself entering the U.S. Capitol Building during a violent riot on Wednesday that temporarily halted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

Incoming state Del. Derrick Evans, a Republican, entered the Capitol shouting “We’re in! We’re in! Derrick Evans is in the Capitol!” Evans was part of a mob that later walked around the Capitol Rotunda, milling about with little police presence. On Friday, federal prosecutors announced that Evans had been charged with entering a restricted area

Evans was not the only state lawmaker in attendance at the events in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Lawmakers from at least nine states traveled to the nation’s capital to attend demonstrations against the certification of election results, egged on by President Donald Trump, who in the morning gave a speech in which he said he would “never concede.”

Those who came to D.C. include Arizona state Rep. Mark Finchem, incoming Nevada state Assemblywoman Annie Black, Tennessee state Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver, Virginia state Sen. Amanda Chase, Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano, Alaska state Rep. David Eastman, Michigan state Rep. Matt Maddock, and Missouri state Rep. Justin Hill.

Their accounts of their level of participation in Wednesday’s event varied. Eastman and Hill said they came to D.C. but didn’t participate in the demonstrations. Black said she marched from the White House to the Capitol but retreated from the crowd when people began charging the security barrier around the building. Weaver told The Tennessean she was “in the thick of it” but wouldn’t specify if she had entered the Capitol on what she called an “epic and historic day.”

At least two of the state lawmakers were involved in organizing busloads of people from their state to attend the events on Wednesday.

White man who drove into Iowa protesters avoids prison

Quote:
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A white man who deliberately sped his car through a crowd of racial injustice protesters in Iowa City, striking several, will avoid prison and have the incident erased from his record if he stays out of trouble for three years.

A judge last month granted a deferred judgment for Michael Ray Stepanek, 45, who told police he drove his Toyota Camry through the crowd in August because the protesters needed “an attitude adjustment.”

The sentence means a felony charge of willful injury resulting in bodily injury against Stepanek will be dismissed and expunged, as long as he does not commit a crime during a three-year term of probation. Judge Paul Miller also suspended a $1,025 civil fine.

Offenders who commit “forcible felonies” are not eligible for deferred judgments, but the charge to which Stepanek pleaded is not considered one under Iowa law. He was also eligible for the break because he did not have a criminal history.

One of the protesters he hit said Friday that she advocated for no prison sentence, but that she wasn't aware the case might disappear from the public record.

“I think it’s dangerous to have this kind of case occur and just wipe it away,” said University of Iowa student Eva Sileo. She said it was frustrating to see protesters face harsh charges in other cases while Stepanek gets leniency.

Stepanek's attorney John Bruzek said his client was influenced by social media and political rhetoric characterizing the protesters as dangerous criminals. Stepanek initially believed he was legally justified but has come to see he was wrong and apologized, Bruzek said.

Why Republicans support tobacco and fast food. From this morning's NYT:

Quote:
McDonald’s and the tobacco company Altria, which are among the top 20 donors to McCarthy, the House Republican leader, have not announced a halt on donations to any Congress members. Neither has Bank of America (a major donor to Scott), although it said it would “review its decision making.”

Mitch the Turtle now wants to throw Trump under the bus.

Wow that only took 4 years.

How politically adept he is.

Former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) and other former state officials will be charged after an investigation of the Flint water crisis, according to two people with knowledge of the planned prosecution. The nature of the specific charges are still unclear, but the mishandling of the city's water devastated the majority Black community and was blamed for a Legionnaires' outbreak. Marjorie Taylor Greene Lashes Out After Report Unearthing Her Comments That Parkland, Sandy Hook and 9/11 Were Staged

Quote:
Newly-minted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a believer of the QAnon conspiracy theory, is lashing out following reporting on her past comments in which she expressed her belief that the Parkland and Sandy Hook shootings were staged — as was 9/11.

Eric Hananoki, of the progressive watchdog site Media Matters for America, uncovered old Facebook posts from Greene touting her belief that 9/11 was an inside job, and that the Sandy Hook and Parkland shootings were false flags.

In a Thursday tweet, the Georgia representative lashed out at Media Matters.

“Communists bloggers like @mmfa run the same playbook of lies and smears on people they feel threatened by,” Greene wrote. “Produce fake news, spread it all around, then tag all fake news stories about their victim in all future stories. Guess what? Nobody cares about your BS.”

Apart from the blanket claim of fake news, Greene did not issue a specific rebuttal to Media Matters’ reporting. The progressive site found a 2018 post in which Greene expressed agreement with someone who said 9/11 “was done by our own gov[ernment]” and “none of the school shootings were real or done by the ones who were supposedly arrested for them.”

“That is all true,” Greene wrote, in a now-deleted post.

Greene also drew ridicule on Thursday for introducing articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden approximately 24 hours into his term.

Republican facing multiple convictions for human trafficking and fraud begins sentence

Quote:
n October of 2019, former elected county assessor for Maricopa County Paul Petersen was charged by Utah’s attorney general with 11 felonies. Those felonies included “human smuggling, sale of a child and communications fraud.” The charges stemmed from what prosecutors said was an illegal “adoption scheme” where Petersen recruited and transported at least 40 pregnant women from the Republic of the Marshall Islands to Utah, where they birthed and then gave up their babies. Petersen cut a plea deal in Arizona and was sentenced to 74 months in prison.

On Jan. 21, Petersen began his sentence at a federal prison near El Paso, Texas. Petersen is still facing sentencing for fraud convictions in Arizona and the human trafficking convictions in Utah. The Associated Press reports that Petersen is appealing the sentencing in the Arizona case after the judge gave him two years more than the guidelines recommend.

Petersen was able to cut a deal allowing him to plead guilty to “Alien Smuggling For Financial Gain,” a way of saying he’s a straight-up monster and that Arizona is racist. According to CNN, Petersen is also on the hook for $105,100 in fines and court costs and will submit to three years of supervised release after his time in federal prison. The Utah conviction was a deal with Petersen pleading guilty to “three counts of human smuggling and one count of communications fraud.”

QAnon are still running around looking for human traffickers at pizza shops.
