Hey there,
I'm headed up to Red Bluff for a few days. Any place to sail up there if there were to be some wind? Thanks.

Black Butte, west of Orland, west of Chico. Flat water off shore speed runs in the fall. Need a strong north clearing wind, like after this coming storm Mon, Tues, maybe Weds. Sailing in AM, 7:00 or so to noon maybe. Should be quite warm. Enter from the north entrance, Buckhorn. Good luck, can be quite windy sometimes.

Check water levels before you go to Black Butte. This late in the year the water can get pretty low & muddy. Whiskeytown lake is another, but lighter wind option. Just outside of Redding

Black Butte's main body is always sail-able, even in extremely low water. However access is from the west side (BuckHorn) in very low water makes all sailing totally off shore and if you go way south there are stumps. Call Red Bluff airport 528-8030 for current wind readings add +3-4 for North , subtract 2-3 for South winds. Can be good on a North, we get very few South above 18mph. In the spring we sail Buckhorn channel, side shore.
