Anyone with property down south had to file a claim for either? I get conflicting reports as to whether it's of any use to insure, or not.

I'm also not sure what your question is. You MUST have auto liability insurance while driving in Mexico and it must be issued by a Mexican authorized insurance company. Your US insurer, no matter what it might tell you, can not provide coverage in Mexico. If you have an accident, whether or not it is your fault, you must post a bond to cover any possible claims. Your Mexican insurance carrier posts this bond. Without the bond, you are put in jail until a bond is posted. I know of one case where some Americans hit a cow that wondered out on the road, the cow bounced across and hit an oncoming car driven by the deputy mayor of La Paz. They spent some time in jail until their insurance carrier posted bond.

Regarding theft, your Mexican policy, if you request comprehensive coverage, can provide a payout. Your US policy may or may not. You need to check with your carrier.

I've used Lewis & Lewis in LA as my broker for Mexican insurance and have been happy with them. You apply on-line.

I own a house in La Ventana; not talking about a car. Lots of folks on this forum own in Los Bar., hence the post here.

Thanks,
Eric
