|

Coming from Europe where we have quite a bit of windsurfing racing going on I am wondering if there are any racing events here in the North East, preferably around Boston and the Cape?
I tried to find information online but with very poor results.
Thanks in advance! |

There's a new windsurfing festival in the Northeast that launched in June...the East Coast Windsurfing Festival. There was racing there, and there will be again in June 2009 as far as I know. _________________ Michael

|
|
We have races every Wed. evening on Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA. Everyone is welcome. If you like longboard sailing, as we do, please come out and join us. We are in the second half of our season, so there are only about 4 Wed. night races left this season. After that we have a race in late September called "September Winds" which is also on Lake Quannapowitt. This year it is on September 27th.
We would like to organize more events but the number of participants have been dropping over the years. Maybe now with the new revival of longboards and the strong youth development activities we can start having more events again.
Drop me an e-mail if you'd like more info. on QYC events. We sail out of the yacht club which is located at the end of Linda Rd., Wakefield MA

There is/was a group doing some pretty competitive open class racing out of Trunk River in Falmouth MA, lots of fun.
Participation was spotty and nobody was helping out, including the local shops! But it was some top notch racing while it lasted! Rumor has it that if there were enough dedicated participants and help, the series could be revived for next year.
If people speak up enough in the Cape Area/Southern NE, the windsurfing community could be revived. |

Perhaps the QYC people would consider coming down for the Saturday series as well..... It's only an 1.5 hrs from the lake and it's ALWAYS windy! |

Brucie, when it comes to rather amusing and definitely ridiculous ---- no contest. You win, hands down.

So the "ALWAYS windy" comment may have been a bit of shameless PR boosting, but really we usually had some good blows at Trunk River. And concerning the drive, it's O.K. as long as you leave early, besides I could share some major traffic short cuts.
Honestly I really dislike racing, but I also don't like what's happening to the sport right now and I see a good natured, fun racing environment as a good way to heal the pain, even if it's only on a local scale.
I can imagine that many of you convulse at the thought of a longboard and any sail over 5.5m. But I'll bet many of you who were involved in the racing community 10 or 20 yrs. ago, really miss it. |

Don't ask me to drive from Wakefield to the Cape in order to make a Saturday race in 1.5 hours during the summer. |
