I'd expect neo socks to roll around my feet and jam my toes mercilessly. You usually need some kind of sole, probably an ankle strap, and even better a toe or two to really keep them where they belong. |

O'Neill Heat Ninjas, buy 1/2 size small so they're tight. Frigging amazing for windsurfing. Thin neoprene, just enough to work, soles coated with tougher smooth yet grippy stuff, top (instep) slippery so it won't hang up in footstraps, split toe so it won't squish around. They don't last very long on barnacle-encrusted rocks, that's the price you pay for sensitivity. Don't tell my sponsor. _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

Atan is the only way to go. They are hard to find, but clearly the best I have tried, and I have tried a bunch.
They are comfortable, have great board feel, and last a long time.
Most everything I have tried was bulky and uncomfortable. O'neil, 5fingers, Prolimit.
Excel superflex booties felt great, but would fall apart in about 2 months. |

I don't disagree about the Ninja/split-toe boots, however, if you're like me and have big toes....or other toes that are suseptible to getting ingrown toenails and otherwise getting beat-up by rocks on the bottom or jamming them in the straps, then steer well wide of these boots. I really need the extra room and protection that a full boot gives you. I use the O'Neill 3 mil boots and they work just fine. This is a pretty specific complaint though, and for most people, the split-toe boots are just fine. _________________ Kansas City |
