I suspect if we cannot make it from the water to any of the 3 dock platforms, we'd have NO ability to climb any kind of ladder from the water to the concrete roadway. Anyways, there's a reinforced PVC (with metal tubing) ladder and a rope ladder at the middle hoist.
I climb down the PVC ladder twice a week during the season after dropping the rescue skiffs, even at zero zero tides, and I'm 59 years old out of shape and weak. Yes, sometimes I climb up them too, but then, I can make it onto the dock from the water with my own power.
C'mon guys, we're supposed to be athletes.
And yes, sailing 10' from the Lordship windows and hucking a big aerial jibe should account for some +points with the restaurant, but alas, unfortunately, HisLordship is NOT the harbormaster or the city of Berks.
If we need an easier exit, try E of the E dock, past the showers, for a flat, rocky, easy down and out in down to +1 tides. That's where BrianB, BruceW, and Patrick launch and land from.....
I really can't believe there could be any problem hauling our fat butts from the water to any of the docks, regardless of gender, conditioning, or strength.
Like I mentioned, we're supposed to be athletes, aren't we??

Maybe they're simply curious why all the kiters wear their shorts over their wetsuits. Why would anyone do that?

Understand, Charlie is an advanced WINDSURFER also, and can bust 10' one handed airs when it's windy on his freeride gear.
But having spent lotsa time at happyhour in Lordships, kiters DO get more attention, but only if the kiter is jumping, spinning, and doing something besides a lame grab.
Mitsui jibes there 200 days a year, so windsurfing is not quite the same.
However, when Tyson, Whit, Wyatt, Rob, and Kevin sail up there, the spectatorship is easily 80%.

I think that the dock should have a few fundamental characteristics. If it will be made out of wood, it should have perfectly flat wood planks without any screw heads protruding. The edges should be smooth and protected by a soft rubber surface attached without exposed screws. The actual height is acceptable for most, although a few people find it difficult to climb on and off their boards. I woud say that the current height should be the maximum, slightly lower if possible. Since we "lost" a whole segment a couple of years ago, if possible it should be extended to the previous lentgth. It's getting shallow in low tides, so ideally, we should make the dock longer. In my opinion the most important design characteristic should be receding floating pontoons. This allows for the boards to move under the dock while docking, but avoiding dings and marks on the boards. There should be no cleats for boats like the current one as these cleats tend to ding boards and trap booms. If they choose plastic planking the same design characteristics apply, most of the current plastic docks are designed for motor boats and hence not that suitable.
