Anybody who knows where I could get my boom re-gripped professionally in the Bay Area? |

Hey Arnout,
Ben Bamer. Here's his contact info from another post. He did a nice job on an X7 for me. Probably about $65.00 or so, IIRC, but that was at least a year ago.

A few things: I am based in the East Bay, mimimum charge is $60 (that goes pretty far), most repairs completed in 3 days or so, kites and windsurfing sails are not foreign to me, can quote prices over email or with picture.
Hope that helps. |

Mark,
Just curious, did you provide the grip material, or was that included in your earlier price? Also, was the regripping done with a die cut type original OEM material (NP in your case) or simply with a solid material/color material?
I have the early softer grip that was used on the initial Maui Sails carbon booms, and its a bit scarred up after the first year and a half of use, so regripping is ultimately in the cards. Great booms though, despite the too soft grip material (it's my understanding that the grip material has subsequently been updated to a tougher grip).

By the way Arnout, I've got 3 sails in with Joe D right now. Does he not do booms?

Anybody still doing boom re-gripping in the Bay Area?
I have a Streamlined carbon boom that needs re-grip.
Thanks!

I re-gripped my Maui Sails (MS) boom 4 years ago using a new grip from MS with some marine grade glue and it is still going real strong. Not sure if MS changed the material they were using but the replacement grips from them worked well and fit the diameter of the boom perfectly. I have also heard they have started using a different glue that works better. Given how much effort goes into the engineering/design of their booms it is ridiculous that the grips have had so many problems over the years. _________________ _____/)_____
