Humm yeah Corolla's about 2 hours north of all the windsurfing shops in Avon, such as Ride, Sailworld, Ocean air, and the Avon Sail house. A little closer to home is Hatteras Island Sail Shop in Waves, and you might be able to rent windsurf gear from Kitty Hawk Kites at windmill point in Nag's head. Not sure about anyone north of there, though...

Maybe Bill can chime in?

If you make it down to Avon, swing on by Sailworld and say Hi Very Happy

I believe there is a place called North Beach Sailing which is located a mile or so north of Duck. They used to carry windsurfing gear there, but not sure anymore as I have not been up there in quite a while. While driving north to Corolla, keep an eye out for it just north of Duck. That is likely your best bet for windsurfing on the northern OBX. As for rental gear, I do not expect them to have current gear...likely only beginner rigs of unknown quality/performance.

Kitty Hawk Sports in Nags Head is only a t-shirt shop these days, and Kitty Hawk Kites is kiteboarding central along with Real.

If you are coming to the OBX for windsurfing, it is definitely best to head south, even if you are staying on the northern OBX. I would recommend a day trip to Waves to sail at HISS (first real windsurfing shop you will hit along the route), or go to Avon for the entire lot (Ocean Air, Ride, Sailworld, etc...).
