Hi all, will be heading to the west coast on monday and would like advice on good sailing sites along the NW coast...
Will hit davenport, wadell and 3rd ave for about a week, then head north...
It looks like Florence has been going off fairly regularly with close proximity to golds beach and pistol river....
So my question(s) are...is this a good location to be centered out of ; I plan on staying about a week or so before heading to the gorge...
Are the hotels reasonably priced (ie cheap-mid range price) ?
Is there better areas to stay ... I would like close proximity to intermediate to advanced wave sailing sites (i ain't no expert haha) but would like to sail in sailing areas with others to share the stoke with (rather than being the only guy out there)...
Swithching gears here, will also be shooting WS photos from the beach (and perhaps from the water as well).. for those fellow photogs out there- will 400mm be adiquate to get descent shots from the beach or do the waves break way off shore where a 600 mm w/ 1.4 TC might be required?
Thanks!

Some of the top spots on the OR coast (from N to S) are:
- Manzanita
- Lincoln City (Road's End Park)
- Newport (Agate Beach, South Beach)
- Florence (South Jetty)
- Pistol River
There are lots of other spots, but these are some of the best. More civilization from Florence and points north.

You'll get the most sailing in on the south coast. Just stay in Gold Beach for the week. Florance is a nasty place to hang out but does have some nice sailing, just not windy as often as Pistol River. You will not be alone at Pistol area but may be alone up north. You can get some good shots with a 400 at Cape Sebastian but a 600 would be nice too. If you get your but kicked by the waves you can always head up to Floras lake for a fresh water session on your way to the gorge.
