Iowa county supervisor’s wife found guilty on 52 counts of voter fraud

Quote:
Nov. 22 (UPI) -- The wife of a Republican Iowa official was found guilty on 52 counts of voter fraud in an attempt to help her husband get elected.

Kim Taylor, wife of Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, was found guilty Tuesday of 26 counts of providing false information in registering and voting, 23 counts of fraudulent voting and three counts of fraudulent registration. She faces up to five years in prison for each charge.

Taylor is accused of acting out a scheme to fraudulently bank votes for her husband when he ran for a seat in the U.S. House in June 2020. He did not win election but was elected to the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors in the fall election.

According to the Justice Department, Taylor again engaged in voter fraud during the fall election. Her sentencing will be scheduled at a later date and she has been released until that time.
Kim Taylor, who is a native of Vietnam, allegedly met with several Vietnamese adults who spoke limited English and filled out election forms, including registrations and ballots, on behalf of them and their children. The children were unaware that this had been done without their consent, despite some of them not living at home for several years.

Local election officials were alerted to potential voter fraud when they noticed several ballots with similar handwriting on them. The Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill then alerted the FBI.

Jeremy was named as an unindicted Co conspirator in the

Prior to this, two college students attempted to request absentee ballots when they learned that ballots had already been cast in their names. The students were from Sioux City but were attending school at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

"The right to vote is one of our most important constitutional rights. Ms. Taylor deprived citizens of their right to vote in order to benefit her husband's campaign," Timothy Daux, U.S. attorney, said in a statement to KCAU in Sioux City. "The guilty verdict is an example of how the justice system works to protect the voting rights of citizens, and ensure fair and honest elections."

In total, eight young adults testified that they had not consented to their parents filling out elections for them and they were not aware that they had done so.

While Jeremy Taylor was not charged, he was named as an unindicted co-conspirator, according to the Sioux City Journal.

Calls for his resignation have begun to surface from his fellow county supervisors, KTIV in Sioux City reports.

"Those of us in public office are entrusted to a high level of integrity and responsibility to the citizens we serve," Mark Nelson, Woodbury County supervisor, said in a statement to the news station. "And at a time when so many are questioning the validity of their vote this type of conduct only deepens the very real concerns amongst our countrymen."

Chairman Matthew Ung has also called on Taylor to resign. Like Taylor, Nelson and Ung are Republicans.

"The only thing I'm uncomfortable with is that his wife has been set up to take the fall," Ung said in a statement.

Trump supporter convicted after DeSantis-formed office busted him for voter fraud

Quote:
Asupporter of former President Donald Trump has been convicted of criminal charges related to voter fraud after getting caught by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security.

Click Orlando reports that 58-year-old Robert Rivernider, a resident of The Villages in Florida, was found guilty of signing his late father's name to a mail-in ballot in the 2020 presidential election.

Sumter County Elections Supervisor Bill Keen testified in the case that the signature on the ballot of Rivernider's father was notably different from past signatures.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

What's more, the signature more closely resembled the signature of Rivernider.

Rivernider, whose website touts his past work on behalf of political campaigns ranging from Trump to former President George W. Bush to failed congressional candidate Laura Loomer, was found guilty of forgery to alter public records, fraud in connection with casting a vote, and passing a counterfeit instrument.

All of the charges faced by Rivernider were felony counts, which means he faces the prospect of several years in prison.

According to Click Orlando, The Villages have become something of a mini-haven for voter fraud in recent years.

"Several residents from The Villages have faced charges in the last few years for voter fraud related to the 2020 election," the website states. "At least four Villages residents were charged with voting twice in the election. All of them entered into a pre-trial intervention program to avoid potential prison time."

‘Hotbed of Gerrymandering’: Ex-GOP House Member Details How Democratic Activists Just Took Away Republicans’ 2 to 1 Majority In a Swing State

Quote:

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes praised progressives who tackled and overcame Wisconsin’s gerrymandering issue that had left Republicans firmly in power for years.

On Friday, the state’s supreme court ordered legislative maps to be redrawn, which could undo a heavy Republican gerrymander in the state.

“This has been one of the most contentious fights in the whole nation over the most aggressive state gerrymander probably in the entire country,” Hayes said. “The Wisconsin Republicans have gerrymandered themselves a legislative map that basically guarantees them essentially a 2-1 simple majority in the state legislature in both houses, even when the Democrat at the top of the ticket, Tony Evers, for example, wins statewide. Thanks to a switch in the personnel in the court, they have now thrown those maps out after a very, very long battle in that state.”
“Yeah, and that last point is probably the most important: the hard work of Progressive and Democratic activists, but let’s get to the substance,” said former GOP Rep. David Jolly (R-FL). He continued:

Wisconsin has been a hotbed of gerrymandering and gerrymandering jurisprudence going all the way to the Supreme Court recently, and the question the high court wrestled with is, we know that gerrymandering on race and gender is unconstitutional, but can you gerrymander on partisan and political grounds? It’s called the efficiency gap that you point out in Wisconsin.

It’s relatively a 50-50 state, elected a democratic governor, but Republicans have so gerrymandered the state legislature it’s a 2-1 majority. What happened earlier this year, Progressive and Democratic activists worked very, very hard, Chris. You know this well. The reward was, they elected a supreme court justice that tilted the scale towards the Democratic-elected judges. And they just ruled that, no, you can’t do 2-1 majority for Republicans in a 50-50 state. It won’t affect Congress or the presidency but all of a sudden we have a very right gerrymandering question. And in Wisconsin, all lines for state legislature districts have to be redrawn.

right wingers argue that two cases of vote fraud should give them a new election. Note the two cases were Republicans and they were top establishment republicans...

Louisiana Democratic Party issues statement after Supreme Court denies appeal Caddo sheriff case

Quote:
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - After the Supreme Court refused to hear the case and a new election date was set, the Democratic Party chairwoman released a statement.

On Dec. 30, after the Louisiana Supreme Court refused to hear the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s election case on Dec. 28, and the new election date was set for March 23, Democratic Party chairwoman Katie Bernhardt speaks on the issue.

Protecting our democracy has never been more important, because as we saw in the election of Donald Trump vs Joe Biden, Republicans don’t like to accept when they have lost. Instead of following the will of the people, they simply use money and influence to attempt to overturn fair and lawful election results,” says Bernhardt.
Bernhardt claims that the information submitted by the Nickelson team is misleading.

“They stated that two people voted twice, but what they failed to highlight is that the two people who voted twice were both registered Republicans who served in leadership positions for the Republican Party,” Bernhardt clarifies.
“The Louisiana Democratic Party will stand with Sheriff-Elect Whitehorn and the voters of Caddo Parish. In every election, the candidate with the most votes wins. We don’t get to throw a tantrum and seek to overturn the will of the people if we don’t like the results of an election.”

The new election will be held despite the re-count showing Whitehorn as the victor due to Nickelson’s suit. Bernhardt is concerned that the next election will be challenged too.

“January 6, 2021 showed us how far Republicans are willing to go when they don’t get the results they want. Will he challenge the results again, when Whitehorn wins for a third time,” asks Bernhardt.

The Louisiana Democratic Party stands for the will of the people and a fair election process. The votes have been counted, and re-counted, and Sheriff-Elect Whitehorn is the victor. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and join with the people of Caddo Parish and Sheriff-Elect Whitehorn to make sure his victory is what democracy looks like.

A free and fair democracy doesn’t look like marching in the streets shouting “You will not replace us," nor does it look like the storming of the United States Capital. We must get back to

respecting the will of the people and the election process, win or lose.

Katie BernHardt, Louisiana Democratic Party

Virginia elections investigation uncovers missing votes in 2020 — but for Biden

Quote:

Another elections investigation has finally uncovered that there were missing votes in 2020, just not for Donald Trump.

While the ex-president has maintained for years that the 2020 election was stolen from him and there was fraud afoot, it turns out Joe Biden was shorted votes in Virginia and it was a Republican investigation uncovered it.

NBC Washington reported the Prince William County Office of Elections revealed the news "a week after prosecutors from the Virginia Attorney General's office dropped charges against the county's former registrar, Michele White."

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

The numbers wouldn't have changed any races, however.

"In the presidential race, the county mistakenly shorted Biden by 1,648 votes, and overreported Trump's count by 2,327 votes. The 3,975-vote error in the margin of victory was immaterial in a contest that Biden won by 450,000 votes in Virginia and by more than 60,000 votes in Prince William County," the report said.

Texas-Based Conservative Group Tells Judge It Lacks Evidence to Back Illegal Ballot Stuffing Claims

Quote:
Conservative group True the Vote has admitted to a Georgia judge that it lacks evidence to substantiate its claims of illegal ballot stuffing during the 2020 general election and a subsequent runoff two months later.

The Texas-based organization filed complaints with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in 2021. It alleged that there were coordinated efforts to collect and deposit ballots in drop boxes across metro Atlanta.

In response to an order from a Fulton County Superior Court judge requiring True the Vote to provide evidence it had collected, the group’s attorneys stated that they had no names or documentary evidence to share with state elections officials.

This admission prompted criticism from Raffensperger’s spokesman, Mike Hassinger, who labeled True the Vote’s “fairy-tale allegations” that lacked substantiation.

True the Vote’s claims had been cited in the widely discredited film “2000 Mules” by conservative pundit Dinesh D’Souza. However, a State Election Board investigation determined that surveillance footage supposedly depicting ballot stuffing showed lawful ballot submissions.

Despite assertions by True the Vote in their complaints, the group failed to produce substantive evidence when subpoenaed by the election board to assist in their investigation of ballot trafficking allegations.

Frustrated by this lack of cooperation, Georgia officials took legal action, resulting in a court order demanding True the Vote to disclose names, contact information of sources, and any supporting documents.

However, True the Vote’s attorneys reported that the group could not provide such evidence, citing exhaustive efforts to locate responsive items. True the Vote’s founder and president, Catherine Engelbrecht, declined to comment.

This development follows previous legal entanglements for True the Vote, including a contempt charge in 2022 for failure to comply with a court order in a defamation lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that True the Vote had falsely implicated an election software provider in storing the personal information of U.S. election workers on an unsecured server in China.

In light of True the Vote’s failure to substantiate its claims, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and state elections officials opened separate investigations. Despite attempts by True the Vote to withdraw its complaint, the State Election Board pressed forward, ultimately resorting to legal measures to compel the group to provide information.

Despite legal mandates, True the Vote’s attorneys asserted that the group possessed no documents related to confidentiality agreements with sources. This development underscores the ongoing controversy surrounding allegations of election malpractice in Georgia and the challenges faced in substantiating such claims.

Crystal Mason's five-year prison sentence is overturned in Texas

Quote:
Brian Pritchard, the first vice chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, has earned a reputation as a prominent election denier. This made it all the more notable when a state judge this week concluded that Pritchard violated state election law after voting unlawfully — nine times.

The Georgia GOP official will not, however, find himself behind bars. As my MSNBC colleague Clarissa-Jan Lim noted, Pritchard will have to pay a $5,000 fine and will receive a public reprimand from the Georgia election board.

Over the last few years, this has happened with considerable frequency. Quite a few Republicans have been caught casting illegal ballots, and in practically every instance, they’ve received relatively light sentences.

And every time this happens, I’m reminded of Texas’ Crystal Mason, who cast a provisional ballot in the 2016 elections while on supervised release for a federal conviction. She didn’t know she was ineligible to vote, and her ballot was never counted, but Mason — a Black woman — was nevertheless convicted of illegal voting and sentenced to five years in prison.

Mason has been out of prison on an appeal bond, and as NBC News reported, she yesterday received the news she’s been wanting to hear for several years: A Texas appeals court overturned Mason’s five-year prison sentence.

Mason had testified that when she was in prison, she was not informed that she could not vote upon her release, [Second District Appeals Court Justice Wade] Birdwell detailed. She also “emphatically denied” having read the provisional ballot’s affirmations detailing felon voting restrictions, testifying that she did not know she was not allowed to cast a ballot because she was on supervised release from prison, according to Birdwell.

The appeals court judge wasn’t fully satisfied with the defendant’s explanation, but Birdwell wrote that “finding Mason to be not credible — and disbelieving her protestation of actual knowledge — does not suffice as proof of guilt.”

“In the end, the State’s primary evidence was that Mason read the words on the affidavit,” Birdwell said.

“But even if she had read them, they are not sufficient — even in the context of the rest of the evidence in this case — to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she actually knew that being on supervised release after having served her entire federal sentence of incarceration made her ineligible to vote by casting a provisional ballot when she did so,” he added.

Not surprisingly, Mason was thrilled.

“I am overjoyed to see my faith rewarded today,” she said. “I was thrown into this fight for voting rights and will keep swinging to ensure no one else has to face what I’ve endured for over six years, a political ploy where minority voting rights are under attack.”

another right winger with about 70% of his signatures in question for fraud.

Republican Complaining About Election Fraud Drops Out Amid Forgery Scandal

Quote:
Austin Smith, an Arizona state Republican representative who has previously complained of election fraud, dropped out of a state House race amid allegations that he forged signatures on his nominating petition sheets.

Smith was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives during the 2022 midterms and is a member of the House's Municipal Oversight and Elections Committee. He is also senior enterprise director for Turning Point USA's Chase the Vote program. Turning Point, a nonprofit founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk and the late Bill Montgomery, advocates for young conservatives.

In a statement on Thursday, Smith announced that he will no longer be seeking reelection, following a lawsuit filed on Monday by Arizona voter James Ashurst. The suit alleges that roughly 100 of the 826 signatures on Smith's nominating petition sheets were forged, with "many of those signatures bear[ing] a striking resemblance to Smith's."
"At least two voters whose names appear on petition sheets Smith circulated avow that they never signed the petition," the lawsuit added.

Smith called the lawsuit "ludicrous" in his statement but said that "if they could convince a judge that any one signature was forged, all of my signatures would be invalidated and I would get kicked off the ballot. And as per Arizona law I would also be banned from seeking office for five years."

"With no limit to the length of time that such an investigation might take, and no limit to the number of billable hours I would end up paying to defend myself, those who wanted to do me real harm might well succeed," he added.

Smith mentioned that he recently got married and he and his wife were not looking to accumulate tens of thousands of dollars of debt, which he claimed they would have even if he won the lawsuit.

"To protect my family today, I'll withdraw as a candidate," Smith said, adding that he will use an online signature system "if and when I run again" for office, so that "no one can make up any stories."

Republican Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer replied to Smith's statement on X, formerly, Twitter, writing: "If the signatures are valid ... we put out a report saying that the signatures are valid ... and the defendant can just point to that. $0."

Smith has previously claimed that President Joe Biden's 2020 election win against ex-President Donald Trump was stolen, despite no evidence supporting the claim. He also has criticized Arizona's mail-in ballot signature verification process on social media.

"Signature verification in Maricopa County is a joke," Smith wrote on X in May 2023.

Republican Maricopa County Supervisor Clint Hickman has called for Smith to resign and for there to be an investigation of the signatures.

"An investigation will reveal the truth, but this episode tells us something about those who have spread falsehoods with such ease since the 2020 Election," Hickman wrote in a statement on Thursday.

"They can't comprehend that most Americans and Arizonans are honest people. They accuse others of dishonesty so easily because they have no qualms about lying to win a political race or a business deal. Well, I will always tell people the truth ... and Austin Smith should leave public service now."

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said that the matter has already been referred to state Attorney General Kris Mayes.

"This case was referred as part of the normal process, along with 12 other cases on Tuesday. The determination of fraud or forgery and potential charges is currently in the hands of the Attorney General and those prosecutors," Fontes told local news outlet Arizona's Family.
