Trump coup nightmare: See the moment Fox News turns amidst 'devastating' smoking gun
Quote: | The devastating evidence presented against Donald Trump in the latest Jan. 6 hearing shows Trump supported the armed overthrow of the U.S. government. Now, the incriminating eye-witness testimony is prompting some Trump veterans and conservatives to turn on the former president, including Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and Fox News favorite Andrew McCarthy, a conservative former prosecutor who previously wrote a book defending Trump. MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber breaks down the significance of these concessions. |

Prominent conservatives who worked to oust Donald Trump in 2020 are back — with a plan to spend at least $10 million to defeat candidates who embraced the former president’s conspiracy theories about that election.
The group of conservatives, the Republican Accountability PAC, has identified G.O.P. candidates whose extreme views its leaders deem dangerous to the future of American democracy.
In 14 races across six key swing states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — the group has decided to throw its weight behind those candidates’ Democratic opponents.
The PAC has already claimed a hand in several victories in Republican primaries — notably, the incumbent Brad Raffensperger’s win against Jody Hice, the Trump-backed candidate in the Georgia secretary of state race.
In the remaining major primaries, it plans to spend heavily to bolster Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming, whose leading role in the House investigation of the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol has made her a villain and a turncoat to many on the right.
Elsewhere, the group expects to focus on portraying Doug Mastriano, the Republican nominee for governor of Pennsylvania, as well outside the mainstream of G.O.P. politics. |

Ex-Trump White House lawyer believes Trump gave 'aid and comfort to the insurrectionists'
Quote: | Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb thinks Trump gave "aid and comfort" to Capitol rioters.
He said a tweet calling out Pence and the three hours of inactivity alone on that day are proof.
Cobb said he didn't think Trump's defense of believing the 2020 election was stolen would hold up.
Former President Donald Trump's White House lawyer Ty Cobb said he believes Trump gave "aid and comfort to the insurrectionists" during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
"The Pence tweet, coupled with the three hours of inaction, in my view, easily fits into the definition of giving aid and comfort to the insurrectionists," Cobb told CNN's Erin Burnett on Tuesday, referring to a tweet Trump posted on January 6, 2021, in which he called out former Vice President Mike Pence for not certifying the 2020 election results in his favor.

At least nine people close to Donald Trump reportedly requested preemptive pardons following Jan. 6.
Former Trump aides named six GOP lawmakers while testifying before the Jan. 6 panel this month.
A former aide also said Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani asked the then-president for pardons.
At least six Republican members of Congress requested preemptive pardons from former President Donald Trump in the wake of the Capitol insurrection, according to testimony from former Trump aides last Thursday.
The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, riot has hosted six public hearings so far revealing their findings, which also included public damning testimony from former staffers in the Trump administration.
GOP Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene were among the six GOP lawmakers also asked Trump to pardon them for their efforts in trying to overturn the 2020 election.
During a surprise hearing on Tuesday, June 28, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, also testified that former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows were among those who asked the former president for a preemptive pardon after the pro-Trump mob descended upon the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Hutchinson also previously testified that former Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio had discussed pardons with the White House but never asked for one.
On Sunday, Jordan responded to his mention during the hearing, accusing the January 6 House panel of "misrepresenting" a video clip of him saying "the ultimate date of significance is Jan. 6 in a presidential election in determining the winner."
"This committee, I think the country understands, is purely partisan," Jordan said. "And they're frankly not paying much attention to what's being said."

Cobb then said that Article III of the Fourteenth Amendment of the US Constitution — which prohibits those who have been involved in an insurrection against the country's government from holding public office — is something "Congress has at its disposal."

"I don't for the life of me understand why, instead of telling the Justice Department what to do, why [Congress isn't] acting on that alone," Cobb said. "The penalty of finding Trump guilty of giving aid and comfort to an insurrectionist is disqualification from office."
When asked by Burnett whether Trump's defense of believing the 2020 election was stolen from him will hold up, Cobb said he doesn't think so.
"I think that's very damaging for someone who wants to argue willful blindness," Cobb said.
He continued: "I also think that while Trump may argue that defense, I think he is more likely to use the trial in an effort to deal with his themes — that he's all-powerful, he got cheated, and he's the only one standing up for the country."
The January 6 House Select Committee is currently investigating the role that Trump played in the insurrection. |

another of trumps former lawyers opens up and says he is a "Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb called ex-President Donald Trump a “deeply wounded narcissist” who acted in a “criminal” manner"
https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/former-trump-lawyer-wants-narcissist-barred-office-rcna47088
Former Trump lawyer wants ‘narcissist’ to be barred from office
Quote: | For quite a while, it seemed as if Michael Cohen was the former Donald Trump lawyer most opposed to his former client. The controversial attorney served as Trump’s fixer and an executive at the Trump Organization, before ultimately rejecting the former president and describing himself as a “fool” for having trusted him.
But Ty Cobb is now giving Cohen a run for his money.
Cobb, of course, represented Trump during the investigation into the Russia scandal. Shortly before the two parted ways, the then-president published a tweet that read, “I have full confidence in Ty Cobb.”
Evidently, the feeling is not mutual. As we discussed a few months ago, Cobb denounced his former client’s election lies, telling NBC News in July, “The Big Lie has been good only for Trump and has brought him millions in donations, which some evidence suggests may have been mishandled. The Big Lie, and the related violence, election interference and other perceived misconduct, was and is an affront to this nation and its first principles.”
The lawyer added at the time that the former president had become “a disaster for the Republican Party.”
In a new interview with CBS News’ Major Garrett, Cobb went much further. CNBC reported:
Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb called ex-President Donald Trump a “deeply wounded narcissist” who acted in a “criminal” manner when he pushed then-Vice President Mike Pence to block Congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 election win. In a new interview, Cobb also said Trump’s conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, while a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol, could — at least theoretically — lead to him being barred from seeking the presidency.
“There is a simple way to disqualify President Trump,” the former prosecutor said. “[Trump] clearly violated the 14th Amendment of the Constitution’s Article III when he gave aid and comfort and three hours of inaction with regard to what was happening on the grounds of the Capitol.
“That clearly gave aid and comfort to the insurrectionists,” Cobb added, explaining that declarations from the House and Senate could therefore bar Trump from running again for elected office.
GOP’s McCarthy asks the wrong question about recent U.S. progress
The attorney went on to say that elements of Trump’s Jan. 6 scheme were “criminal,” adding, “This was the first time in American history that a president unconstitutionally tried to remain in power illegally, and in my own view ... I believe that would merit prosecution.”
Circling back to our earlier coverage, in recent years, there’s been ample discussion about what, if anything, it might take for those caught up in Trumpism to conclude that they’ve been scammed. Who, if anyone, will they listen to?
Clearly, these voters will not be persuaded by pundits. Or lawmakers. Or historians. Or prosecutors. Or committee reports. Or special counsel investigations.
Perhaps, however, they’ll consider listening to those who worked side by side with Trump, and who now see him a menace? |

Alyssa Farah Griffin denounces Trump after Elaine Chao attack: ‘He’s not even trying to hide the racism’
Quote: | CNN commentator and “The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin denounced former President Trump for comments he made attacking Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
Trump said on Truth Social on Saturday that McConnell had a “death wish” for supporting bills that Democrats sponsored and referred to Chao as McConnell’s “China loving wife.”
“He’s not even trying to hide the racism at this point. Just despicable,” Farah Griffin said on Twitter.
Chao was born in Taiwan and served in Trump’s Cabinet until she resigned the day after the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.
Farah Griffin, who served as Trump’s communications director for about nine months in 2020, has fallen out with Trump since leaving the White House and has been critical of him and other Republicans’ continued support of him.
“This isn’t some crazy person on the internet, this is the GOP front-runner for President if the Party doesn’t wake up & demand better,” Farah Griffin said alongside a screenshot of Trump’s post. |

Former Trump ambassador profanely attacks 'narcissist' president in score-settling memoir
Quote: | The former Trump-appointed US ambassador to the European Union is calling out his one-time boss in a score-settling new memoir.
The Guardian reports that Gordon Sondland, who was a key witness at President Donald Trump's first impeachment hearings, calls Trump a "d*ck" and a "narcissist" in a new book called "The Envoy: Mastering the Art of Diplomacy with Trump and the World."
Sondland also says that, while he was thrilled to work for the Trump administration when he began, he quickly came to regret coming on board after he was pulled into a scandal that resulted in Trump's first impeachment.
"[Working for Trump] was like staying at an all-inclusive resort. You’re thrilled when you first arrive, but things start to go downhill fast," he writes. "Quality issues start to show. The people who work the place can be rude and not so bright. Attrition is a huge problem. And eventually, you begin to wonder why you agreed to the deal in the first place."
Sondland also said that there was nothing wrong with Trump withholding military aid from Ukraine in exchange for it launching a criminal investigation into the Biden family, despite the fact that Trump was tying a foreign ally's national security needs to his domestic political desire to dig up dirt on a prospective opponent.
"Quid pro quos happen all the time," Sondland argues in his book.
The former Trump ambassador also reportedly has some harsh words for former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"Sondland criticizes Pompeo for firing him over his impeachment testimony and allegedly reneging on a promise to pay his legal fees," writes The Guardian. "Sondland also hits Pompeo for not inviting Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, to Washington but inviting the Russian foreign minister twice." |

hmmm another recent top level right winger speaks out... Again against all things trump...

Fmr. Pence Aide: VP’s life put in danger by “premeditated” lies of an “insane man”
Quote: | At its latest hearing, the January 6th committee presented evidence that Donald Trump and people in his orbit planned to spread lies about the 2020 election even before Election Day. “This was planned, it was premeditated,” says Olivia Troye, who previously served as a Senior Advisor to former Vice President Mike Pence. “The Vice President's life was put in danger because of this insane man.” As Election Day approached, people were so concerned that Trump would falsely claim victory before all the results were tabulated that former White House counsel Greg Jacob wrote a memo advising Vice President Pence to steer clear of those claims. “It’s significant that Greg Jacob felt the need to put it in writing,” Troye tells Ali Velshi. “That tells me that all of them were aware of what Trump’s planning was…and they were concerned about how this was gonna play out.” |
