Seems too thin and weak to retain anything substantial. If it was looped around the safety line of the base, it would keep the rig attached if the pin sheared off or the adapter accidentally released the pin, until that line breaks. I'm only guessing what it does. But it would not be easy to use, have to hook it up each use. |

Yes, it is loose. It does absolutely nothing. More over it doesn't stay in those grooves at the bottom and slides between the moving surfaces (between the bottom of this adapter and the top of the mast base . Meaning, that it will be rubbed and ground between those.
I contacted Epic regarding this line. Didn't hear from them yet.

Maybe it's meant to tie off somehow to the either US mast base or the Uni so the adapter is not accidentally lost during the disconnect process. I'm thinking its intended to stay with either the mast base or the Uni when in use. |

I do not really see how this could potentially happen. |

i actually NEVER saw this before and the adapter makes the migration from US cup to Euro pin so much less painful - in terms of $$$

A number of years ago I bought a similar component that claimed to convert a Euro-pin connection to the 2-pin configuration. The first time I tried to use it, I found that it didn't work correctly, and as a result, it was something that was undependable and utterly useless.
Looking back, I think that it's best to have the right original products, even if it means having two different component systems. That said, I personally think that the Euro-pin configuration is the best overall design. It is far less subject to wear-and-tear and potential failure. I've found that the 2-pin design universal gets worn and wobbly with a years use, and I can't tell you how many 2-pin spring clips that have failed on me, potentially leaving you with a separated rig far offshore. Also, the pins wear the holes in the mast extension making it less dependable over the long term. |
