On an irrelevant personal note, I had to chuckle at your German engineering comments, Anton. If it weren't for the Germans we brought to the U.S. from Peenemunde, our moon landings would have been delayed by probably years. I lived and worked in Huntsville, Alabama (Marshall Space Flight Center), met many of those Germans, and lived and worked very near Von Braun -- the V2 rocket genius who put us on the moon.

I dated the daughter of one of them. She wasn't bothered by it, but her dad had a problem with my last name, Fick, which is German for what it is damned near in English.

I'm often amazed at the ingenuity and craftsmanship of even such simple things as the components and gadgets we see in your photos. HOWEVER, until the German automakers got their reliability acts together recently, I wouldn't have bought a German car for anything.
