I would recommend that you tighten all the battens to take out any wrinkles or bunching in the batten pockets. Usually that is done with a screwdriver or allen wrench depending on how your sail is configured. The fasteners are located at the leech end of each batten.
Also, your plastic cap at the top of the luff doesn't appear to be correctly seated. You want the tip of the mast to fit all the way into the top of the cap so that it's fully captured.
Lastly, the sail appears to be under downhauled. A bit more (1-1.5 inches more keeping the same mast extension setting) will create a slight falloff or looseness of the leech at the top of the sail. Depending on the strength of the wind, the looseness in the leech should extend down to the second or third batten down from the top of the sail. Also, you may need to readjust the outhaul with changes to the downhaul. A bigger pocket for light winds, and smaller flatter pocket for higher winds, |

also, with this down haul setting, the out haul is too flat. once you've tuned the battens and d/h, start over with the outhaul and pull away from zero cm by cm until you have some tension. try that, if it feels too back handed, try a couple more. too flat is unstable, too full makes the fin spin out too easily. cheers. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com

Right, it isn't correctly seated but even though the mast tip itself may be in the cap, the cap appears too wide. The mast must snugly fit into the cap to prevent exactly what appears on your sail. Scale the cap's size up to that of a drinking cup to better visualize what I mean. The adjustable mast strap is pulling the cap out of alignment because the cap is too wide. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

I have a new vario top HSM 5.2 wave sail and a 430 cm mast. The specs on the sail say 430-25 , mast 442. I understand this to mean that I have to give a mast extension of 430+ 12= 442.
However, if I downhaul with only a 12 cm extension, the bottom of the sail from the boom down remains still crumpled up and I can fully stretch it only by increasing the MF extension to 28 cm and not 12 cm as the specs say ( 430 +12=442)
1. Why do the specs say only 12 cm MF extension?
2. I have a 460 cm mast, too. Can I use it with the vario top sail, instead of the 430 cm mast, by sliding the sail down along the mast? I prefer to use the 460 cm mast because it is 75% carbon, lighter than the 430 cm
Thanks

Some Hot Sails had wrong dimensions printed on the sail. Must be an old sail for a 5.2 to need almost 460 luff length. Obviously you can try the sail with either mast and see which you like. |

also - if it is vario top - the sail specs are for vario top to be set at its minimum !!
and if you dont want the sail, I will be happy to take it off your hands
for high wind and ice sailing |
