Light day starting at 5.4 and quickly deteriorating to 7.5 and then too patchy. 4-6 windsurf out, at least 20 wings, 2 windfoils ... 1 kite (poor kites Wink )

Wings have taken over and the obvious reasons seem to be that they are much easier to foil, much simpler, and safer, than a kite, and they go up in marginal winds with relative ease. A number of windsurfers friends are now winging in light air. The speed is non existent, but the agility is impressive. You can have fun turning around and around in a patch of 100 yards of wind ...

Personal note: kind of too bad that I jumped on the foil train too early. Windfoil has not really worked for me, but the wingfoil might have ... or maybe not and I am getting too old to invest the energy required to learn new tricks! Shocked Very Happy

I'm opposite.
Windfoil, especially long fuze and low aspect foil, is smooth and effortless, providing underpowered so pumping is needed.
Wings take energy and agility, plus balance....commodities this old fart never had nor hope to acquire.
And Berkeley normally requires a Anita Rock slog to get to the windline. Most wingers hate Berkeley.

There are two kids who wing Crissy regularly who are very very skilled. I think they live locally. Recommend giving them a lot of room. A number of us have had a couple of near collisions. Much more fun watching them from the beach.

Tomales yesterday . NOT a light day. No WINGS. Just 6-8 old windsurfers on a perfect 3.7 day.

Wings seem to do just fine in 33 mph gusts.
They were invented in Maui.

most wingers are slow but the better ones are fast. 30kt has been achieved AFAIK. I can hold my own winging w/ slow windsurfers, esp in rougher water. Fast windsurfers will blow me away. the foil will win the corners. speed is probably the least exciting part of foiling though for me, although I also don't like to be slow or be passed.

Saw a good winger on a sub 1000 foil and 3.0 in 15-22 mph Berkeley.
Believe me, Vlad is as fast as 90% of windsurfers, and foils through every jibe.
He said his daughter is faster and jibes better.
If I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it.
