Relative to the wings at Crissy, it started last year. Right now, I would guess that 90% of the regular Crissy kiters have completely moved over to wings. Some new folks have joined in and a number of windsurfers winging in light wind and windsurfing when it is really windy. In the scheme of things, I do like how it has brought the different groups together.
It is orders of magnitude easier to avoid the wingers. However, some of the guys who are really nimble with those things change direction on a dime without any warning. Be careful.
There are noticeably fewer kites this year. Most of those left are part of the chill branch of that community who are out "mowing the lawn". However, the younger guys who show up in an oversized kite and twin tip board to show off their jumping skills 10 feet off the beach are still out there. The only difference now is that are now also annoying the former kiters learning to wing on the inside.

There was indeed a seemingly demented one doing that well inside Anita yesterday ... go figure if he is missing a bolt or two, or if it is just that human stupidity (as the last four years have reminded all of us) knows little boundaries ...
I agree that it is nice that the two groups are now closer together. It is amazing how little it takes to bring about our tribal instincts! (myself included of course, I don't seem to be very well inclined toward ... The Kiters!!!! )

I am at a loss about what to do about the twin tip kiters who show up at Crissy and sail back and forth to Anita Rock and show off by boosting in the launch area. This has been a problem for years. My best explanation is that these individuals are trying to compensate for short comings in other areas of their life.
Calmly explaining unspoken rules or good etiquette doesn't seem to help.
Yelling and screaming at them doesn't seem to help.
Physical confrontation in the beach or rigging area doesn't seem to help.
Maybe ignoring them is the best strategy.

Ops ... I forgot my 3.7 again today ... wind was a bit too strong for 4.2 at Crissy today and I am not so sure 3.7 would have helped much my current 155 pounds ... it was windy!

Windsurfed Pleasure Point today. Was OK, but wind was gusty and too north of Southwest so it was coming across the point on the inside and keeping it too glassy in there. Surfline said the waves were 1 to 2 feet at Jack's. I seemed to be off on my wave selection and was winding up with mostly the 1 footers. Still, nice to windsurf a place I had not been in a while.

The afternoon started out as a very nice day for wind sports (shown) and steadily moved upward from that point, ending the day at over 30.0.

Lovely conditions but man those wind mills are ugly! Where is nuclear fusion when you need it?
