OTOH, some choose to launch at His Lordships to avoid wasting the slogging time.

Or if tide is less than +1 foot and you don't like to sink up to your shins in muck.... Smile

That's how you show some love for your sport. Hard wading means hard sailing! /sarc

Sinking to shins isn't bad, good workout.
Sinking past both knees is a different story, as you can lose your booties or risk twisting some ligament.
Watch tides.
I sorta worry about catching some disease when I need to change up at the urine smelling Lordship parking lot.

Yup, lost a bootie years ago at the docks - sucked right off.

Good advice to avoid HLS launch - leaves more space for the die-hards given increased parking restrictions.

Imagine a newbie with a 7.5 sail and 130 slalom board trying to negotiate the rock path at Lordships.

Not sure if we answered your question about getting to the Brooks Island speed zone. My experience has been that if when launching from the Isabel beach pointing on port puts you heading right at the gap between the island and the Richmond shoreline, that's a good angle for the speed area. Also good to have a lot of sail, there are some wind shadows, nothing too bad, and it's great for the speed sailing. Go through the gap and then head up close to the island spit for the flat water.
Kevin's quite right about how much fun it can be, and then you can carry your gear across the 10 feet of spit to the windward side and launch into large swells for your ride back home. Good times.
I imagine there's good access from the Marina Bay launch, I've just never done it.
Good luck and have fun!

Agree with advice for access.

When launching from PI, aim as close to the large pylons at north tip of Brooks as you can. Sometimes it takes a couple of runs over/back to get high enough. Unfortunately, that's also where the wind shadow can be. You have to maintain speed and then just as passing first pylon start to pinch more into wind/southerly to get to near the long jetty heading NW from Brooks.
Once you get close enough to the jetty it's fairly easy to just sail figure 8's around the middle two pylons and maintain your position.

Crossing the "bar" is doable, but depending on tide can be a pain. Birds don't appreciate you doing it either.

Launching from Vincent isn't as helpful as you might imagine, given downwind positioning and having to get away from the beach.

Cheers, David

His Lords launch access down the riprap definitely needs improvement. Much safer for me to take sail down first and then return to get board (from nearby). Same drill for exiting (but board up first). Others are more sure-footed. Doesn't cause too much of a traffic jam. High tide is even more exciting as you try to "find the bottom" amongst the slippery boulders.
