You might also consider the Dalles River Front Park. Shallow along the inside between shore and the island, and because of a slight tweek in the river direction the wind is somewhat on-shore, especially if it is NW. -Craig

Agreed. That's where I learned to waterstart many moons ago. Decent rigging area, easy launch, shallow water for safe practice. In those days it was also uncrowded.

you might also consider Lake Floras south of Bandon, especially when its hot and windless here. warm shallow freshwater lake just off the ocean. its where our kids got in the footsteps and harness. I think you can walk back from the south end...but never had to. B&B there is great. Can also camp on the north end. but its been a few years so need to call to assess current conditions, especially milfoil.

Well well, what a small world it is. I taught windsurfing at the very park many moons ago.

MARINA!! Not even close.

You can stand everywhere so start off with manoeuvring the sail and board while standing and beach starting. Slowly work your way deeper so that you have to do more technically correct beach starts and before you know it they'll be waterstarting - while still doing the sail manoeuvring standing.
