Thinking about finally visiting the bay-side Dewey/ Rehoboth area form some windsurfing, as my Cape Cod trip got blown up. A few questions for folks who are there now or recently visited:
1) On a summer weekday, like this week, how early in the morning should I arrive to ensure I can get a parking spot, as I would need to get an out-of-state day pass. And, how early does access to Towers and New open?
2) I understand there may be a better place to park/launch for the day, than Towers/New, but have never found the road name listed on online maps. Feel free to DM me more specifics, if you’d prefer to keep distribution to just one discreet windsurfer.
3) Given COVID, easy to social distance at these locations?
4) If I bring the wife and daughter, anything historic to see that is a safe, walkable distance from launch areas. (they are good with walking several miles)
Many thanks!
(may post on the local FB group, too) |

I hope you are finding some information elsewhere.
It has been many years since I sailed in the area but I used to sail in Indian River bay and Assawoman bay. We had a place in Bethany and it's Google description might point you in the right direction for other activities.
Bethany Beach is a small coastal town in Delaware. It’s known for its wide, boardwalk-backed beach. North of town, Delaware Seashore State Park is a barrier island with miles of beaches between Rehoboth and Indian River bays and the Atlantic Ocean. To the south, Fenwick Island State Park has dunes and a surf area. The shoreline, fields and forests of Holts Landing State Park attract birdlife like herons and osprey.
Have a nice trip! |

Thank you, Fox! Yes, we were able to get some additional guidance from the BABA facebook group. We were looking for some shallow/smooth water, and found that at the Tower Rd and New Rd bay launch sites.
We’ll explore some of the area you mentioned as well. |

Sailed New Road Aug 12 and it was great - SE ~ 16-18 with gusts ~23. Don't often get these winds in mid summer. Parking area smaller than before but you should have no problem and it's free. Not much of interest for wife/kids other than shallow water (VERY warm) swimming. |

Thanks, cpainter. We ended up making a couple day trips, with similar success. We left the non-windsurfer in the family home. |
