I've been buying iCOM marine radios from West Marine for years, they don't last long (even with a freshwater rinse after every use) … this summer I've had two M37 units which each failed in less than a month, I've cleaned the contacts (still shiny/new) and tried several other tricks -- should have done my research first, apparently a known issue that iCOM won't address. CAVEAT EMPTOR: radios work fine except when exposed to salt water -- for example: https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=65737 Exclamation

Nice first post. Rolling Eyes I've used an ICOM-72 for at least six or seven seasons (probably longer) w/o any charging, transmission or receiving issues. I always use a radio bag that at this point is not water tight, and only briefly towel off the radio post-session. I don't recall ever giving it a fresh water rinse. Have experienced only minimal corrosion near a few exterior screws.

I've used it to call the cavalry twice sailing from TI [once for me when an extension failed, and the other for a de-masted laser with two mariners drifting towards Berkeley].

Over and out,
Ross

Good to hear Ross - I've used iCOM for 10+ years (also at TI Wink … typically they last me just over one season (~50 outings) before I have an issue which makes me want to replace it … but now this new M37 model seems to only last a few weeks before it flashes orange and stops charging (frustrating enough to warn others on this forum) … to be fair to iCOM this is a new issue/model which is failing so quickly (for me), but I won't be buying another!
