How & who they ship board with. Received a board a couple weeks ago from Isthmus. Pilot, then Valley Cartage. BigWinds, Windance.... not sure who they deal with. BluePlanet out of Honolulu ships by air from there to your nearest larger airport. Maybe the shop shipping companies are not an option for individuals? |

The shops you mention are businesses, dahhhhh . They have a coordinated contract with shippers. They send multi boards each week. I have a business account with FedEx, which gives me less a discount than Fed Ex on eBay does.
I haven’t tried ,ever, to ship using a shop. They may do so ,
A. They have a relationship with you.
B. Enough money changes hands, likely cash.
C. Exceptions to every rule.
I don’t understand why a business can ship, and every day person can’t. I totally understand the price structor _________________ K4 fins

Really, the issue is about shipping larger products, even if they weigh very little in comparison with similar sized shipments that often weigh much more. Like I mentioned earlier, I had good luck with UPS Freight, which offers a different business model from regular more common UPS business we see in our neighborhoods.
While my shipment was in 2008, I have little reason to believe that things are that much different today.
I have to admit that I'm surprised that Bob never commented on investigating the UPS Freight option. |

Of course this about large packages, a windsurf board.
Ups use, length, width X 2 plus x 2 height, add together. For girth. At a certain girth it’s too big, it larger than the allowed, may vary from carrier to carrier.
For a board it will almost surely put it into a oversize class, more $$. Weight enters into the equation, but 20 lbs is not going to be advantageous , it’s the dimensions that are used primarily.
Shipping Fedex or Ups freight is expensive.
Easy enough to call for a quote.
The current shipping rules/ guidelines are different , from when I last used anything. _________________ K4 fins
