Where did those boards go? 1. In the used market and 2. Abandoned by manufacturers?
Any long term updates on these models? I was thinking the 2017 Reactor in 87 would be a sweet board for me in 15-22 knots, crappy side on conditions. But where to find one? _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |

I think that the Reactor was the replacement for the Black Box . The BB remains the worst board I have even ridden, was designed/ developed By Danny Bruch, who has his own line now. I recall that it had a very narrow window of performance, think made only 1 year. Don’t recall much about the Reactor, except at least 2 years.
The Quatro was widely regarded , it worked well in the UK conditions from many reviews.
Finding a board made but one or 2 years, and their is a reason for that, will be a task.
I would look for the Quatro . _________________ K4 fins

I know guys who like the SM, both the starboard options only seem to be enjoyed by paid reviewers.
I've gone through the motions of looking for a smaller board for higher wind days where the waves aren't great/B&J and I've recently picked up a Simmer Quantum V3 which I quite like. Its definitely more easy than radical but its miles from a FSW and has a lot of fin tuning I have yet to explore. |

I have the Quatro Super Mini 103 L. I think it is a fantastic board within its niche. That niche is cross onshore. I think it would be a fantastic Cabarette board.
I've ridden it in cross shore conditions and you need to be slightly underpowered in those conditions to make up for the large tail. In cross shore conditions it is better suited to mushy waves without a lot of power.
I also have the Goya One 116 L and have ridden the Goya One 106 L. The mini thruster turns much better on a wave than either of those 2 boards. I have not ridden the new Quatro Power FSW board, but if it is a Mini Thruster with a stretched out length then I think it would be perfect as the only thing I would change about the mini thruster is make it a little bit longer for comfortable slogging. |

The interesting thing is how would one compare a Starboard reactor in 87 with a kode wave 87 and super mini 86? I really like compact boards with a narrow tail but wider mid section. Basically a 15-25 knot board for mushy waves.
The kode wave is a great tool, limit is 2m side. It's 60.5cm wide, the new one is 58. It's more of a pivoter than a carver but works well for both front and back foot turns.
I definitely prefer front foot turns and usually sail near the side section of the reef. Not so fond of round sideon frontside riding even when big. _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |
