|
|
Just for my friend Scott, a local who apparently loves my statistics, my windsurfing stats for my Summer 2019 in The Gorge, with the usual lovely wife.
This is us :
So, from May 23 to September 3, we sailed 89 days out of 104 (85%), about what we get form year to year since 2000.
But where 2019 really shines is the number of good Gorge Winds days. Here's the percentage of time spend on the water by our sails:
Sylvie was on a 4.2 or smaller 77% of the time, that's a least 15% more than her average. In fact, she used her 2.9 this year more than the past 3 years combined!
So what was the best month this year? June, hands down. Here are the numbers (made June a 31 days month, by starting it May 31):
And here's the sail usage for each month:
On a personal level, I think my wife improved her high wind skills and swell riding this year. I keep mowing the lawn, whatever the conditions. In fact I did 8,789 km on the river. That's 5461 miles. But hey, like Mick Jagger once sang:
"It's only back and forth, but I like it".

Don't tell anyone your secret launch sites. Word around here is the wind quality sucked this year. Ask anyone at the Hatch yesterday. |

Sailed mostly at The Hatchery, this year (60%). Very few heat waves this year, so my favorite light to moderate secret spot (Viento) didn't work to well. Also, less windy days in the Far East in June than usual.
For the wind quality. we had a weird system over our heads in July that messed with the wind, but other than that, I had a lot of good days this year. But, that's the Gorge, the best and the worst, and sometimes on the same day. |

Agree with all here. Like your fun positive attitude (attitude is everything!) I'll also buy you a beer next summer. I'm in the other white sprinter van.

Thanks everyone for the nice replies.
Gary, hope to see you too in Cape Hatteras next spring.
Here's another picture of Sylvie (it is a nick name, her real name is "Planchette"). It pretty much sums up what June was like for her: overpowered on a 2.9.

Awesome. And jealous. I only get out 10-15 times a YEAR.
I'm at the point where every session feels like either the best ever, or the worst. Luckily, even the worst day on the water is still a good day. (Viento is my go-to spot because it's closest, and it's fun to be totally alone.)
Good post.
