Sailing the Gorge and inland lakes & the Outer Banks are considerably different. I have Maui Sails too - Global 4.0 and 4.2. Switch 5.2, 6.0, 6.4. Race sails above that. Global sails are surf sails, but I just use them for bump and jump. I like the Switch sails a lot. They seem light and have a good shape, good power and range. All are on Maui Sails carbon masts, the 4.0 and 4.2 on a skinny.
I do pretty well getting by with smaller sails than others have rigged, but my goal is to plane and keep my speed on the upper half of my control level. More of a speed and jibing thing rather than large swell riding in the Gorge. I have sailed the Gorge twice for a total of 15 days so I know what it's like. I had two days at Doug's with winds at 45 mph on a borrowed 3.7 in survival mode the whole time. Never skunked on any day while there. |

In 18 mph, I feel much more weighted down with my 4.7 Maui Sails and 400 carbon mast. In light wind like this I can plane up easier on my 4.2 than my 4.7. Btw, I weigh about 170 lbs. |
I must be missing something. Advertised as lightest sail from ::
Maui Sails : 4.2 = 2.7kg
..........4.7= 2.9kg
.2 kg difference
Typical US made
carbon mast 370 = 3.4kg
...................400= 3.6kg
.2 kg difference
Total of .4kg between these.= .882Pound or about 14oz
And you can tell the difference on the water in weight ?

The board supports the rig's weight just as it supports our weight. It's when we start maneuvering that the sail's aerodynamics come into play, and they're influenced by many factors including design and rigging. |

At the last Swap there was a person looking for light weight sails. We were all scratching our heads too. |

Northwave does make a sail called the Featherlite. I guess that's just another head scratcher. |

What masts do you currently own? A better tuned sail on the correct mast will outperform a lighter kit.
I love a smaller sail on a wave. On the other hand, I enjoy the power and drive off a bigger sail in side-on conditions. Plus jumps are higher _________________ *NEW* - Manu's Windsurfing Blog, The STORE! |

The Featherlight and Sinewave ON Northwave’s website are said to be the lightest.
Maybe they are, they could be the same weight. The weights aren’t posted. _________________ K4 fins

The S2 Maui Dragon 4.9 rigs on a 370. I don't have the weight spec on me and it's not on the website but I have it written down somewhere. Will post that info when I can.

Kevin, the Dragon sounds interesting . Have you sailed it, impression ? Interested in its weight. My Tri Sails 4.8 is 2.35kg,on a 370. _________________ K4 fins
