I am traveling to San Francisco next weekend and need advice on sailing sites. I have heard of nearly all of them but have never sailed up there. I am an experienced sailer and dont think I would be afraid of trying any site up there, but what is the best? I know conditions are important (i.e. fog, tides, etc.). Thanks!

Depends on the weather conditions, but you should be able to sail every day this time of year. Since youre an experienced sailor, you should be fine anywhere (but watch out for the current at Crissy) Just check the iWindsurf site to see where its blowing.

My picks for August:
PENINSULA - Coyote on a WNW afternoon seabreeze (if its WSW - it will be gusty & not filled in to the beach). Sail way outside to the shipping channel for some nice swell. 3rd Ave. is also very good w/ easier access to the channel, but parking can be difficult later in the day.
NORTH BAY - Crissy if its not foggy. Note that the sensor can be misleading. Watch the tide/current for safety.
EAST BAY - Berkeley or Pt. Isabel if the wind is more WSW than WNW.
SHERMAN ISLAND - If the bay is fogged in, it usually really blows out in the Valley & it can be a blast. Warmer water & large rollers, with wind in the AM & PM. Check the Local Info for Sherman on this site for directions to the different launches there.

Hope this helps, and have fun!

Thanks, tjmiller. I look forward to my journey and appreciate the advice. I actually just got the pager, so I will toy between Crissy, Coyote, and Berkeley if the fog has not rolled in. Thanks again.
