Why not design a board with smaller foils at both the nose and tail....super stable, and probably out of the water at much lower speeds than today's designs. Hey....I've got plenty of old boards...just wish I could fabricate! |

what about safety; have seen pictures of several good riders with 8 to 12 in nasty deep gash wounds across their face ? |

Anything can happen but in my limited experience surfers are in a much more concentrated area compared to WS. Even surfing in unpopular spots for a limited amount of time I've nearly been ridden over quite a few times. Plus had minor fin nicks from my own boards. |

What do you guys/gals think of a powerplate on a inflatable such as rrd's airwindsurf...or starboard? |

I'd go straight to Dave Nunn on that one. |

Rich Miller of Berkeley was riding an aluminum double foil back in the late '90's. All the current Berkeley windsurf foil guys, and there are at least 7, have talked to him about it.
I used his design in 1999 at Pt Isabelle, and have sailed with both Rich and his bud Marco at least 30 times, me on windsurf, them on foils.
The double foils, one near the nose, one back near the fin, were slower than the freeride boards of the time. And of course, harder to keep planing throughout the jibe, and didn't jump at all.
The modern single airplane foils seem a bit faster, but slower than modern slalom gear, do jump, Euros can plane thru their jibes, and much trickier to learn.
Would be interesting in a few year's, when the big riders start dialing in their foils to see if they can go faster than current fast freeride gear.
Course racing, foils do very well. |

He wasn't sure..... he thinks the finbox wouldn't be sturdy enough in an inflatable. I have seem the finbox in rrd and starboard...they are pretty rigid, they may flex a bit.
Now how about these.... https://www.duo-boards.com/shop/
I was just thinking about this concept the other day. |
