Remember the fanatic and mistral trim box with four holes in the fin so the bolt could go in four places, moving the box forward?
We sailed far offshore among reefs with those boxes. Several broke and we were able to dive up the fin,put the bolt in an unbroken hole, and make it back ten miles to the the island. You could sail it safely for years broken like that.
The Mistral ones had a folding handle on the bolt that fit a recess in the board ,no tool fin install.

Actually, regarding the Trim box design, it was Bic and Fanatic that used them. I don't remember any Mistral board that used the Trim box design, but you are right about the screw and folding lever that fit into a recessed area of the deck.

If your venue has that many obstacles, I suggest adding best helmet, impact vest, and breakaway footstraps and harness lines. Very Happy

I've spent more money replacing breakaway trim box fins on my BIC Techno 283 than I paid for the board - board remains intact

I've had a long walk of shame when my power box fin hit a sandbank and separated - board OK

Just for Joe I decided to test a Tuttle box fin.....
on the stingray - tuttle is solid!!!

Ripped the back of the board off instead - was able to sail back in. Saved the fin (fin cost more than the board)

Cheers Jeff
