I post about myself…

Don't know about "Mo", but I totally get it.

Sorry to interrupt. Please, continue.

This is what happens when the winds go away. Next thing you know we'll all be discussing our exploits at the gym.

Don't you get it!?! The point of this thread is that Isobars is the real victim here. If your concern is about someone and his family who may have had their lives tragically altered enjoying a sport very similar to our own, please put that on hold. Isobars needs to be listened to right now. This is his time of need, let's not be selfish.

...Can you and Mo STILL not comprehend the difference between a suggestion and a command, an option and a mandate?

I do know Mo and telling her to STFU sounds like a (very rude) command to me.

And what, exactly, did you contribute towards helping prevent the next few (hundred) such incidents?

A disappointing thread, with the retreat by so many to "my sport is the best." Having working with kiters, and done race committee for the classic, I know that the best kiters are stunningly good athletes, capable of amazing speed and agility in very difficult situations. They are pushing the edge of sailing design, and we should all appreciate that. We need to cooperate as a group to make sure that our sites stay open, so can we stop with the kiter and or windsurfer bashing?

I would like to see some constructive ideas about what should actually be done to improve safety. And, like Andy, I would like to know the condition of the fellow that was hurt.

agreed Mac, disappointed too, but not surprised by this forum
with a couple posters that like to just stir it up...
no matter how serious the OP.

most people I know from WS/KS do both or have done both over
the years & we both share the same water, parking lot & beach.

it is not about what you are riding, but your attitude, training & safety
POV in the water, parking lot & beach.

when I see people launching kites, lofting kites in the parking lot at C.F.
launching LIT just up wind of kids & people picnic-ing, people hucking
over kids learning to WS with their parents on the inside at herd ave.

it makes me question some of the KS culture, the same way I question
'extreme' & out of control snowboard/ski behavior around kids/families...

since I KS & snowboard, it is clearly not me being ANTI those sports,
just ANTI the POV that allows people to act as if their trip is all that matters, which gets people hurt & beach access closed, banned.

was WSing near SFO at the same time Friday,
it was the windiest day in a month, with
super gusty/unstable front driven wind.

this is the info I was able to gather from
several KS forums I read & talking to
one of the top SFBay KS instructors.

he was a newbie, possibly never KS at OB before
certainly not in these extreme conditions:

super onshore 20 to 40kt winds
big guys (100kg+) were on 5/7M
his S.O. (possibly not a kiter) launched his 9M
which most likely went into 'death loop(s)'
was not able to pull the release was dragged
(with multiple impacts) up the beach
over the wall & into the road .

similar to the last death at O.B. in 2010,the wind conditions were
extreme onshore/offshore& very strong & the person was on
a kite 2X too big for the conditions, without the knowledge/experience
to handle or just know it was a 'no go' day.

in 2010, the wind & surf was expert level & the person had
NEVER swam, KS/WS or surfed O.B. before & learned
to KS in Tahoe on the lake.

sad all around, but totally preventable.
