For those who are learning windsurfing should take inspiration from this guy Wink

Meet Dr. Hannes Rieger. He's our hero. When I was only 19 years old, he was involved in a car accident as a passenger. After severe complications, Rieger lost his left leg. He had just finished high school, and he was ready to start his life.

"A few years after my accident, some friends told me about windsurfing and what a fantastic sport it was. Then I had the idea to jump on a large board with a friend and give it a try," explains Hannes Rieger.

"After this first attempt, it was clear to me that I had to find a way for me to learn windsurfing. That was the most important thing for me. I wanted to achieve it: to ride a windsurf board at full speed."

There are more than a few. Glenn Woodell is the only guy whose name I know, but I've sailed alongside windsurfers with prothstetics many times. Google it...you'll find lots of photos. Much to be inspired by!

I've seen Glenn down at Canadian Hole in Hatteras years ago. The guy rocks!

We have a gentleman here in Buffalo, NY who sails regularly and wears a prosthesis. He goes out in anything, and one would never know that he is missing a limb.

That's a hell of an attitude. Not sure if I could muster that enthusiasm.

I know I'd try. Every time I see one of these guys (saw a fellow in Bonaire back in February) I get pumped. There's the general admiration, there's the radical vibe, and of course it puts whatever windsurfing challenge I'm dealing with in perspective.

That's David, from either Buffalo or Rochester, NY area - can't remember which. He's a regular on Bonaire during that period. Even designs and builds his own 'foot'.
