RE "weed" if you have sailed Berkeley you have sailed over major beds of eel grass (close to the Emeryville Launch). Unlike most aquatic plants, this suff is not really a problem for windsurf fins. A straight big pointer fin might collect this stuff, but not the regular fins. |

I invite you to come try a regular fin at Bodega harbor once summer hits - you won't get far. Weed fins are mandatory. I've even had to use a weed fin at Tomales/Dillon on occasion. |

no need to drive to bodega for the experience.
not nearly as bad, but marina bay has some thick, fin grabbing clumps floating around these days. |

Kidding aside on the weeeeed fin comment, I've hit a few large fish/small sharks at full speed in the flats at Larkspur over the years and it generally causes massive splashdowns and wrenched ankles / faceplants when the blade stops dead on the side of some mysterious aquatic beast. You can tell by the feel - kinda squishy as you hit dead stop. Never had dinner float up after though. Wish I could hit salmon with some regularity. |
