Interesting, and not completely surprising. The Navy just released its clean-up plan for the area of TI where we launch--the old parking lot and surrounding area. This is sure to be a subject at the next SFBA meeting. PM me if you are interested in attending. |

"Radioactive shards, similar to those detected by cleanup worker McLean, had been discovered in public grassy areas near apartments. One small octagonal object was so hot that holding it for an hour could cause radiation burns, hair loss, and possible ulceration, according to an internal California Department of Public Health memo obtained via a public records request."
Wow! That's scary - Not sure I want to go back to TI |

Mac-The cleanup plan is ADJACENT to the parking lot where we USED TO launch. There is a public meeting out there on 3/12 and I hope the SFBA attends and is proactive about any potential impacts to our CURRENT launch. |

Thanks for posting that lengthy article. It seems as tho the barracks that are left unoccupied are done so because they are too contaminated with either chemicals or radiation to inhabit. Coincidentally that's where we park and rig. Rig faster! |

Check it out- what if there is an unknown reaction. You cut your foot open downhauling get irradiated. Suddenly you turn into this raging sailing machine. Every move you throw works. The glowing side effect can only serve to make others aware of your presence. Who knows what they are detecting out there? It could be a pile of old diapers from the 50's totally inert or degraded; not harmful. Radiation afterall comes from a variety of sources. |

Amazing how much toxic waste there is in the bay that haunts us from cold war days.
Does not surprise me at all how the Navy covers it up either.
Wonder how much and how far that nasty stuff leaches out to the rest of the bay. Between TI and Alameda, Hunter's Point, Delta run-off-YIKES!
Basically the whole bay is probably pretty polluted on some level but might be good to avoid the areas that have such a high concentration of waste......
Think I'll avoid TI......
What a shame-it could be such a beautiful place with some of the best views in the bay.
