It happened today @ Wordens Pond RI. Ice is solid 5 inches. Plenty of black ice but also bumpy patches you can somewhat avoid. Planning on going back for more tomorrow before the coming rain and warm-up.

Around Rochester NY we've also had the best ice in years. The lake effect snows from Erie and Ontario have held off for the most part and we have rideable ice that we haven't felt like snow plows on. The wind has been almost too much at times. We are a little snow covered right now so Guy Trudeau's Windski is going to get some test runs.
A quick vid from 12.31.13.
Music credit to Greg Pucher of Kingston, Ontario. The song is "Boss".

Manged a couple of 360's and duck jibes.
I put my universal in the forward most hole of my Freeskate clone and it tamed my 4.7 enough to be manageable in gusts to 28mph. I wish 13 mph...that would be heaven.

here in Montreal we have ice earlier than usual
it got quite warm for a bit and there were concerns about safety
now the ice is over 12 inches or 30 cm thick
there are even pick-up trucks on the ice with the ice fishermen
here i made a quick video testing a DIY mast mount for my GoPro 1.0
in this video winds were not ideal , but i am in the harness doing about 40 to 50 kph based on cars going on nearby bridge

the next outing 2 days ago had less snow on the ice - cleared by the wind
the ice was better than what i have seen in the arenas
with my skis at 20 degrees it was NOT enough and i spun out on 2 occasions with my butt sliding over the ice - no issues - lots of padding
so, yes, best ice ever - was considering going back to 30 degrees, but now we have some more snow and so the current setup should be okay
