Somebody stole my 2009 white Ford E150 van full of my windsurfing gear between 5PM on 11/11/13 and 7AM 11/12/13 right off my driveway in Los Altos!
Please keep an eye open for this gear. Someone selling "Windsurfing poles" online is probably is not a windsurfer.

Power Amp ($500)

The fins, bases, extensions... clothing... wetsuit....etc. etc....
I have really good insurance so I think I'll be made whole less my deductible, but it will take hours to account for all the extra fin screws, vent plugs, spare clothes, etc...
Worst thing is I'm missing sailable wind AND I really didn't have the time to do all this work over again to customize a van... the police think it was probably kids wanting a joyride or someone wanting to move stolen merchandise or pot and I'll get the van back in a week or two but who knows about the windsurfing gear.

Hi kirk, sorry to hear that you got ripped off. Same thing happened to me about 6 years ago, my truck and all of my windsurf stuff were stolen . Got the truck back after a few weeks, but never heard anything about my boards, sails, masts etc.Where was the truck stolen from? I got ripped off from in front of my house in the Oakland hills. Hope you get lucky and recover your truck and windsurf stuff. G Meyer

yeah what a bummer Kirk esp. after having assembled the perfect quiver and customized your van to carry it. We'll all keep watch. Best of luck!

DAMN!
Please tell us how that insurance thing works out. Past threads indicated that unless each substantial item is listed and paid for on the policy rider, we're out of luck beyond a pitifully small limit.

Dude, I feel your pain!
Hasn't happened to me but I've got a very similar setup as you, and I've had a setup like that for years.
I have had nightmares (usually after OD'ing on pizza and beer) about my van getting stolen. There is always a scene in the dream where I'm on my knees, pleading with the cops, saying "you just don't understand!!!", as they stand there all cool like taking down "just the facts, mam".
That dream so sucks!

So sad to hear this Kirk. I hope they catch those guys with the equip still inside. Good thing it happened in the off-season.
Unfortunatly I think they were after the van. I heard receintly that late model F150s are one of THE most stolen vehicles and an E150 is basically the same vehicle with a different body. Probably it's much easier to steal than your neighbor's Mercedes with it's complex security system.

Kill switch. Alarm system. Ignition interlock. Parking out of sight in the back yard. Lojac or equivalent. Garage. Fence. Window and parts etching. Complain to the legislature and the public that thieves are not being punished hard enough. Automatic security lights. Driveway motion detectors. Closed circuit camera monitoring. Automatic game cameras. Warning decals. Move to a state that allows you to shoot thieves on sight.
I've done all of those and more at one time and location or another, with the exception of the game cameras; they're next ... and I live in a very quiet, safe neighborhood. Passive protection is very reassuring, and will probably even help.
And, oh yeah ... make sure you close the garage door at night. I've gotten up a couple of mornings to realize I'd left it open all night. Dumbass moves like that can negate almost all precautions.

Really sucks to read a post like this.
One positive thing is that people that steal vehicles are pretty low down the criminal chain and hopefully are stupid enough to post the gear on craigslist, will keep a watch out.
Not sure what all the crazy security stuff is in the last post. Lowjack is pretty pointless as thieves dump vehicles in an open area for a couple of days to check if recovered before going to a chop shop, common knowledge in cities.
Best defense for anyone is a simple kill switch off the fuel pump relay with a toggle racing switch, about $12 and is the best deterrent from stopping a hot wiring. Alarm and the rest pretty worthless.
best of luck recovering everything. Hope your home insurance covers all the gear.
