|
|
It cranked up at Third later in the evening today. As the last few of us came off the water around 7:45, the coast guard was out in full force (two boats, helicopter, and truck on land) apparently looking for someone lost that was flying a blue kite. The helicopter and two boats were out northeast of the channel marker for a while.
Hoping for a successful rescue (if in fact someone was out there) and that he/she is OK. |

Saw a local tv news report that mentioned a lost "windsurfer" was rescued by helicopter last night. The report said he launched from Coyote. Obviously good news. |

ABC news at 11 reported it was a windsurfer, maybe with a dislocated shoulder. Helos were involved, but a motor lifeboat found and brought him back to shore.
Also rescued were 3 kiters in a dingy with a dead motor (who were out there monitoring a race.)

When I spoke briefly with the Fire Dept on shore, they said they had been looking for a someone on a blue kite. Pretty safe bet the news folks haven't yet learned the difference...as we all have one of those wind sail things.
Thanks for posting the link. Glad to know everyone is OK. |

Yeah, the news reporters sure can get things wrong. In this very report they stated:
"As they were towed back into shore, the Coast Guard finally spotted the windsurfer waving his arms in the choppy water.
He was taken to a waiting ambulance to be treated for what appeared to be a dislocated shoulder"
I bet he was waving only one arm as he had a dislocated shoulder. Or maybe both arms and he did not have a dislocated shoulder.
Anyway good work by the rescue teams. At least they get it right. |
