Mike,

Best I can tell is that the mast is still there but was bent over. I think it goes without saying that the bill for this repair should be sent to the fool who broke this thing. Needless to say, he and his other disrespectful friends (who continue to show up this season and cause mayhem on the beach and water due their lack of competence) have pissed off the entire community of locals and are not welcome back.

should not be launching/landing over the civilians

Several legal solutions come to mind for that: banning them; prosecuting them for any damage, injury, or public endangerment; heavier peer pressure; and/or self-defense action. All the cops need to act in most cases is descriptions, complaints, and proof (e.g., multiple witnesses, videos, damage reports), but few people want to bother. Even the guy who was deliberately rammed head-on didn't sign a complaint ripe for the picking. He could have put Benito in prison for years, but now we have to wait until his next victim, if he survives, to do that. (Warning to the wise, Benny Boy. Behave like a human being or spend your remaining youth behind bars.)

As for Wind Sensor Boy, "buy and ship a new mast and cellular electronics, solar panel etc. We also need CG permission to board the Nav. Aid. Then to fly a repair crew in, rent a truck, charter a boat and then hope for a calm day" sounds very spendy, and it ain't "the wind's fault"; it's his, legally and morally.

Hi rigatoni,

Actually is hard for us to get too pissed off. We lose sensors every day to lightening on the east coast, Nav. Aids take out by wayward ships, fishing line from casts gone awry, 0sperys building MacMansions and windsurfers doing forward loops. (well actually that has not happened yet but the rest are frequent)

We have many hundreds of these expensive sensors world wide and at any given time 1% of them are down most commonly due to one of the above. But this particular sensor is one of the most popular so we are already working on logistics.

We have an amazing repair crew that is flying somewhere almost every day to fix a sensor.

If you have not seen this video check it out. It shows 2 typical days with the sensor crew on a boat, helicopter and truck.

It even has an amusing story about the last time a kite took out the Anita Rock sensor.

Mike,

This goes beyond yesterday's incident and kudos for all the great work you folks do both managing the sensors and the forecasts.

This is not kiting or windsurfing thing but a general disregard some have towards their fellow wind community. There have been way too many incidents at Crissy this season with people showing up without a clue. Daily coast guard rescues, launching in the middle of a crowded beach, throwing huge air 5 ft off the beach while their girlfriend snaps pictures of them, etc, etc. A lot of us who use this beach regularly (both kiters and windsurfers) have had it and are legitimately concerned both for our safety and the beach access.

If you are going to come and sail with us, ask questions to the locals, pay attention to the rules, have an honest assessment of your skills, and by all means, don't crap all over the place with your selfish attitude.

Hi Rigatoni,

I totally understand and agree with the issues you raise. I see those issues in person when I sail Crissy as well as in La Ventana and the Gorge. For the most part the problems are caused by a minority of kiters

However there is little that iwindsurf.com or ikitesurf.com can do about those issues. Our job is getting that sensor operational again. And suing someone one for damaging one of our sensors on a federal Nav. Aid would not be productive in the big picture.

But you guys, working with kiters, may have to figure out a way to educate new kiters.

Speaking of which....rumor has it that it was a 12m red with green stripes Slingshot Fuel that took out the sensor. Perhaps if someone sees such a kite and verifies responsibility a "gentle" educational experience from a group of kiters and windsurfers might be in order

We need to find this incompetent kiter and strap him to Anita providing live updates until the sensor is fixed. Idiot. Oh, based on his incompetence, one may have to teach him how to read the wind for better readings for us..

We need to hunt down this incompetent clown, tie him to Anita rock so that he can provide on site reports, every 15 minutes, until the sensor gets fixed. IDIOT. Based on his level of incompetence, we may have to teach him how to read wind so that the report are somewhat useful.

Or two little old ladies in beach chairs at Rufus, one or both of whom were hospitalized, sued, won, but never collected. A few years in jail for reckless endangerment, or up to a couple of decades if deliberate, would work much better.
