Highly relevant. This could mean the death of Candlestick for windsurfing, or an opportunity for an improved site. |

Another thing...
In that document, they have blocked out the proposed "executive park" upwind of the sailing area.
Executive Park residential development OKd in S.F. (sfgate.com)
"Eventually, the roughly 70-acre site, which is now mostly parking lots and temporary office space, could have more than 2,800 residential units in a number of towers, some up to 240 feet tall. A patchwork of condominiums has already been built and will remain." |

At least they mention "enhanced windsurfer facilities" |
and: Install multiple human-powered boat access points, including facilities for windsurfers south of Bayview Hill and kayak/canoe facilities near Jackrabbit Beach. maybe it will get better! Only risk is for parking on the street, but maybe that will not change that much ... |

If you look at that picture do you see parking places ?
And do you see easy access ?
They will be putting in paddle boat rentals and it will look
like shoreline park I think is there idea of windsurfing access.
The access to the water looks pretty bad to. |

What used to rule about Haskins was you could sail it with just a few sailors. Guess that is over |

back in the day haskins could get crowded on a good day even though the launch was very rusitic compared to now. it was called flying tigers after the huge hangar that used to be on the other side where people also launched. until the freestylers rediscovered the launch it wasn't used much.
candlestick and haskins can be bad places to break down as the wind will blow you straight out into the south bay where over the years quite a few have ended up, some spending the night. there isn't a lot of boat traffic and once the sun goes down you will be almost impossible to spot. a radio or other emergency rescue equipment is a good idea to have along. |

The stick is ok. Unless maybe when is blowing 4.2 and below and you brake down way on the other side and east the line Stick-Sierra Point. Otherwise you can always come back to shore by pointing the board 20-30 degrees from the wind: there is no current. You loose ground that way but not too much. You land around the last pier, or you continue drifting somewhat downwind until you get to the wind shadow created by the Park.
Still a Radio is a good idea: I now carry one almost always at Crissy and Coyote. |

FlyingTigers was called that because on your way in, you drove right past FlyingTiger'sFreight.
Past the regular Tiger's launch was the old CoastGuardStation for the S.
Bay, and also our regular low tide launch site.
Due to the need for airport security, they closed the access for the site and everyone just went to the other side, the N side, on a street called Haskins.
That area has been windsurfed since 1983, buy some regulars, mostly from WiseSurfShop.
TedMcKowenn pioneered Candlestick in 1979, according to him, but never sailed Oyster, Tigers, Sierra, or the lake inside Sierra. |
