I sail on Big Cormorant Lake, MN during the summer months and have seen at least a couple of other windsurfers there. So I'd love to find out who's sailing in West Minnesota. Anyone? |

Outcast was talking about moving to W. Minnesota after seeing some pictures of a dude getting killer down the line side-off rides.
Though his fear is those pictures could possibly have been taken in San Carlos and not W. Minnesota and he does not want to make that mistake again!!! _________________ www.Clew-View.com

Summer winds here are intermittent. August and September are the windy months. |

Here are 4 websites that may help:
http://www.lakawa.com/ Use the forum at Lakes Area Kiting And Windsurfing Advisory. Most of the sailors are from the Twin Cities. Sailors from the rest of Minnesota plus some from Iowa & Wisconsin also use the site.
http://fleet8.com/ They run windsurfing & kiting events. I think they have a snow & ice kiting/sailing event coming up in February on Mille Lacs.
http://www.worthingtonwindsurfing.com/ Their Windsurfing Regatta & Unvarnished Music Festival is usually the 2nd weekend in June.
http://www.mowind.org/wp/ The 2013 calendar for Midwest Organizers of Windsurfing is not up yet, but the events will usually be on the same weekend as in the 2012 calendar. MOWIND is also on Yahoo groups. They have a large Open class, a smaller but growing Kona class, a Sport class, nd sometimes have a Workshop class for beginning racers.
The sailors I've met at events are friendly & helpful on shore and competitive on the water.
Many of the Minnesota sailors I've met at windsurfing events do kiting in the winter. Some do both in the summer, some do only kiting. I'm an eastern Iowa sailor, land sailing in parking lots on a mountain board all year, windsurfing when soft water is available, snow or ice sailing in the winter. |
