|
|
i recently bought 2 nolimitz rdm masts because i got a great deal.
400 and 430.
Im usually sailing flat or choppy water but i want to get into wavier sailing.
Until now i have been riding old used gear because I didnt have a budget for decent stuff. And I only have a 7.0m
So I'm looking for a wavy/freeride sail where i can blast around or even try some beginner wave sailing. I'm finally in ther market for new stuff. and will start with something like a 5.0 and 5.8
Im an intermediate sailor. Waterstarts, planing are no problem. Still working on gybing. Tho I can stay dry half the time.
Im having a hard time finding out which sails are well suited to these masts.
Of course maybe i wont notice a compromise since my ability level doesnt require the absolute best gear. But I am working with a clean slate here i wonder what are some good matches. Most sailmakers that have their own sails say that their particular masts are best with there own sails. Im just looking for close enough.
Stats; 175 pounds, 5'11, great lakes sailor.
Thanks for any tips.

the only info i ever found on this is :
The mast bend curve for NL is posted on their site: its about 65 77% or 12
This apparently puts them in the constant curve arena - somewhere around SailWorks
try ryank@nolimitz.com ??

my 2 ¢
12 is correct and the 430 is a softer top than the 400, 13.5
12 is constant curve 13.5 is constant curve flex top.
Numbers do not collate so well to windsurfing but better than nothing to start.
Without looking anything up the NoLimitz should work mighty fine with, Ezzy Goya Simmer . The brands I would stay away from are Neil Pryde, Gaastra and Maui Sails.
NL have some team riders on HotSails Maui products, but they want a flex top.
http://www.unifiber.net/2012/mast-selector
again numbers assorted into categories.
Any mast will work with any sail, it depends on how much range it has to start with, then how how much range you are willing to give up.
Wind N C carries NL masts and have made the new NL to work with Gaastra. Avon Sail house carries NL masts , Goya//Simmer. _________________ K4 fins

Any sail that works with a RDM would work with those masts.
Naish sails would work well also, along with the sail brands already mentioned. |

I don't use Nolimits masts (I use Powerex), but I understand that
Northwave sails work really well on Nolimits masts.

When I had Northwave Sails, they sold Powerex masts, it appears that they now sell NoLimitz masts
would lead to believe they work better than ok , the mast bend curve for NL P/X and Ezzy are close. _________________ K4 fins

the sail WILL work, but not to its performance potential, and if it has ie for example no low end it will be compromised even more.
Naish sails like a stiffer top, we used a Ezzy mast on a Naish Session and it was ok, Naish Firestick masts are almost as stiff as a Gaastra and Maui Sails, esp in 400 size. _________________ K4 fins

if you get Northwave sails and a Chinook boom your entire rig will be made in the USA
That has to count for something! |

No Limitz make Ezzys masts, but to a slightly different mast bend curve
and the spigot , male female ends are opposite to NL but the same as Powerex. _________________ K4 fins
