Any souls pondering going Hurricane sailing. Right now my eyes are on Narragansett Bay, due to low storm surge potential. All my regular spots look already off limits. Will have to check tomorrow on whether Ninigret would be accessible. I could try sailing from the marina on the north side of the pond. Will try to call them tomorrow.

Hi Lars, Not looking good for Monday, due to local authorities closing access to the shoreline. Last year we were told to evacuate here in Old Saybrook, I live 1 block from the water, and have access to Knollwood beach and south cove. We stayed put, but the town barricaded the causeway so we could not get out! I expect a similar scenario today. Don't know about R.I. though, but would guess more of the same. Maybe late Tuesday when things die down a bit.

Evacuation crews are here now, urging everyone to leave, I would not be surprised if they tried to arrest you for sailing. Can they do that? The wind is picking up here, and is starting to look good out there, but the direction is not good, too much out of the north here, Back side of Hammo might be good now, but don't know if you can get into the park. Will post updates .

Maybe we can create a "clearing house" in this thread of closed beaches due to Sandy's visit?

We had some very nice 5.3 and then 4.7 sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. I hate to even mention where we were sailing since that might lead to it being shut down for the next storm. Kind of sad to see all the state parks closed just when the wind is blowing 20 to 30 mph.
We had six sailors and one kiter on gear ranging from my 5.3 and 84 liter board to one semi beginner on a 5.0 and 130 liter board. Most were on smaller stuff, it was perfect conditions from about 11 until 3:00. Still not bad rain, I just had enough for the day once all the others left. Fred and I were on 4.7's for the last hour or so.
