U2U2U2,
Why don't you use a modern single bolt mast base with the slider removed? You could fill in the hole where the plug goes and just have an insert with the same thread as your mast base. You can cast a stainless or brass threaded insert in when you fill the hole. If you can't find any inserts locally mcmaster.com is a good resource. |

I follow your line of reason here. Their is not a reason to fill the hole, and adapt the whole base. The use of the board is limited, a few weeks a year.
I think I figured out what was proposed. _________________ K4 fins

Remove the existing cup, insert the mast base cup on the left side of the photo and then " "expecting it will screw on" then use a standard
Chinook mast extension. _________________ K4 fins

U remove a NUT when you loosen the menagerie, meaning the NUT will screw back onto the BOLT which protrudes from the mechanical joint. |

U2U2U2, if it's not clear to you yet, allow me to explain, including what you might think is obvious. No insult intended.
Your board requires the male "plug" that sits below the mechanical universal joint. That is the only thing you positively need to attach a rig to your board. The rest can be changed to your preference, including the mechanical joint if you wish. Bolts, washers and nuts. That's all there is to it, with the caveat that some bolts might effectively fuse to the nut with more strength than the bolt fuses to the part into which it was screwed, in which case an effort to remove the nut can back out the bolt or destroy the plastic. Things can go wrong, so replace only what you know you can find a back-up.
What's known as the "cup" is the plastic piece that you insert into the aluminum mast extension. You can replace that cup with a Chinook (or similar) that can match a modern extension. As LeeD a.k.a zirtaeb has said, be sure that your mast's inside diameter can accommodate the extension you want to use. Old masts have a more narrow ID than today's standard diameter masts.
Be sure to use RED Loctite on every bolt/nut you replace, and it you have a nut that uses plastic on the inside (Nylock nuts) you must NOT use that again. It will not hold.
I hope this helps fill any gaps. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

It has been ages since I have had this apart. As well has not be used for 4/5 years, it is secure in the cabin 2K away, so I can not look at the mechanics of it.
I visualize what you have said, I can upgrade and eliminate the mechanical joint, same time get the downhaul pullyes. Not sure on how the pieces would fit to replace them, but plenty of time for that.
very appreciative, Thanks _________________ K4 fins

and thanks to me for suggesting the change of basecup to Chinook, then using a normal tube.
Don't forget to thank the dude who suggested double knots for a 4 to 1 pulley system if you don't wanna change anything. |

And gave you the best advice to boot.
Everyone else only repeated my advice.
You seem to take remarks about your multi fin projects with a smile and a wave, yet you take this mast base thing soooo seriously.
I still think you know lots about windsurfing, despite your "holier than thou" attitude towards me. |
