It is great that you put a sensor at marker 10 but could you move it back to marker 12? The sailboat in the playpen is gone and marker 12 is back.
Thanks
JT

It would be great if you can restore the Marker 12 sensor. The Marker 10 sensor was a stop-gap measure, and much appreciated, but the sensor was originally put at Marker 12 for a good reason so why not restore it?

Hi Gang,

The sensor crew is primed to reinstall Sherman Island Marker 12 sensor now that the Coast Guard had fixed the Nav. Aid. However still we have to go through the entire process of applying for permits and justifying the installation to the Federal Government. This takes time but we are on it.

Here is a cool video that shows the fun part of the sensor install process by helicopter, boat and car:

Any chance that Marker 12 will be online this spring?

Coachg,

But it's better to follow the discussion live though...

Hi dennis_c,

We have received some very interesting feedback regarding the usefulness of the "temporary" sensor location over the old location. The argument being that the "temporary" picks up wind that is more westerly that the old location barely sees. And that this information is useful to people, especially kiters, who head west of the access. While the old location basically picks up the same wind at the other sensor.

I will post some graphics of this reasoning as soon as I get time. But the data I have collected so far supports the usefulness of the "temporary" location in picking up more westerly wind.

The question remaining is how many people actually find this westerly information useful? Opinions?

Marker 10 picks up what I would call the last of the bay wind before it reaches SI and confronts the often more northerly valley flow, causing the wind to drop off significantly. And Marker 12 is often a much earlier indicator of SI wind than is Marker 14. Agreed, kiters who have boats or pwc's find Marker 10 sensor useful, but most kiters (and windsurfers) rely on Marker 12 which is the best indicator of wind at County Park.
